Highlights from behind the scenes on GO's first day 22:07 - Jun 25 with 7210 viewsjasondozzell

Ashton has gone turbo Brent
GO will wear Reiss on the sidelines
Bit geezerish but seems nice bloke. Needs to try to change the mates to buhs
Staff in charge of new kit perhaps predictably call it 'stunning'

He gets stick but feck me looking at everything it's hard to be too critical. Sure he came up trumps with KMc but the vision to do what he's done to go side by side the team is impressive. That doesn't just happen.
I think he learnt a valuable lesson from Farage not to mix the club with politics but whilst he's got that drive and determination to keep improving the club then we'll all be all the better for it. Well done Ashton.

"I’ve met people who talk in ‘office speak...wouldn’t beat him up too much for the language he uses. Everyone has different phrases and oft repeated words...’" - many people can speak without resorting to repeated stock phrases. Having a good vocab is usually a sign of good communication skills. Kind of an important management & negotiation trait. He'd last about five seconds on Just a Minute.

That Ashton speech was prime High Performances podcast stuff I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.

GOs Teeth are absolutely mental, I can't stop looking at them.

Very sharp suits from the club.

The suits looked like they belonged at a funeral and O'Neil certainly didn't look comfortable in one!

The staff at the start of the video didn't look too excited ... although their interest piqued when it became apparent they were being told of the appointment and about to meet the new manager.

I thought it was good that he brought his wife with him. I also found it interesting that O'Neil commented something along the lines of "it took long enough" and then later Ashton appeared to praise O'Neil's agents and said he signed everything straight away as soon as it was sent over. (I assume that means nothing needed challenging/altering etc.)

Can we really glean anything from this? It was pleasant and professional. There were cameras there and it's the first day. Everybody will be friendly and smiley. All words will be nice.
Personally, I'd hate those kind of events. You're there to smile for the camera and your every word has to be positive and enthusiastic. And you're probably telling yourself not to f#ck up and say the wrong thing. Thankfully, Gary has a permanent smile.

I prefer it when the honeymoon period is over and everyone is acting more naturally.

It’s just a public version that most people go through if they join a new employer. You know, introduced to a load of people and having to be on best behaviour, having no idea what people are saying to you, who they are and zero chance of remembering their names. I’ve always had a pitiful memory for names so those first day things were always a nightmare. Imagine doing that in front of media? No thanks.

Mind you, on one occasion on my first day I was being shown around the building and Gordon Brown’s office was pointed out. The door was ajar and it was empty. So I scuttled in, sat in his leather chair and let rip. The sound echoed off the cushion. It was a 9/10 thunderbox special. A truly satisfying moment.

I actually knew (and had played golf with) the guy showing me round. He said ‘welcome to the Treasury; you’re a f@#£&*g animal’ and on we went.

Oh, please call me a pleb. I'll know then that I'm actually aristocracy.
