That's a bit inconvenient for Sunderland

Good news for us. They'll be weaker without him

I’m probably old fashioned and behind the times. But why / how can a buying club and player agree ‘personal terms’ before buying club has approached selling club?

I can’t remember that being ‘a thing’ years ago. I guess there is logic to it being accepted and part of the norm but I’m sure that used to be very much not the done thing and ‘tapping up’ etc.

Not just a big loss on the pitch but losing their leader. Sunderland fans are understandably gutted.

I think it’s fairly obvious that everything is done via agents now, so they’ll get a feel for whether a player wants to join and I’m sure numbers etc are laid out during those talks and then it’s just up to the clubs to agree a fee.

Otherwise, there’s no point the buying club making an offer for a player they know won’t join/demand to much money.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I always think of pizza when I hear that blokes name. ‘I’ll have the Fabrizio Romano with extra mushrooms and lots of Parmesan cheese please’.

Back to reality, he might be better than most of the speculation spuds but I’ll believe that one when I see it. Why leave a progressive club like Sunderland after a terrific season for a basket case like Chelsea? Especially as he must have trousered more money than he can ever spend.

It’ll be interesting and nothing in the wacky world of football would surprise me.

Because Alonso was his manager at Leverkusen and they won the league.

If this happens, it just goes the prove that if any of the smaller PL teams (us included) manage to recruit really good players that the bigger fish will swoop in and take them away. The knack is to be able to do what Bmth, Brentford and Brighton do and that’s replace them with a player that’s equally as good.

However, Sunderland will find Xhaka very hard to replace.

He's 34 in September, 2 years left on his contract so should get decent money for him.

Hopefully it's a prolonged transfer and he gets a bout of "August Cough" around 20th August.
