Is the lack of signings a concern? 15:52 - Jul 2 with 3024 viewstetchris

Potential reasons:

New manager has different targets to those identified by Mc?
The World Cup slowing down the transfer market?
Too much competition for players?
Can’t afford the wages our targets want?
We don’t agree with sellling clubs valuation of their players?

Is GON waiting until he has finished speaking to all of the existing squad before making a decision on who stays/who goes?

I think we're going to see a higher turnover of players than many are expecting to be honest, and things will start changing from next week after the kit launch. I also wouldn't read into who's modelling them as last season it was Sammy and Ogbene and they were off!

Quality not quantity is the key really. Hope we're not wasting too much time thinking about who's going to be 4th-choice midfielder or whatever. Squad depth is an illusion in our circumstances.

Given who we're linked with I am expecting this will be the first time we have seen a majority non-English starting 11 at Town for the first time in the clubs history. I don't think many from last season will make the cut this time.

lol, how on earth could we be cut adrift with 33 games still to play? Idiotic post of the day.

You watched the Prem ? 5 games lost would be impossible for a club like us to catch up. We would pretty much be cut adrift from the start. So yes, we need to be up and at it from the start.

Depends what you mean by "make the cut" really. Even if we sign 15 players that'll be 10 from last season in the squad. I'd rather we were concentrating our resources on 8-10 likely starters and keeping 15 or so.

” Squad depth is an illusion in our circumstances.”

No quality in depth was one of the [many] things that contributed to our struggles last time. I agree that we need much higher quality, but depth will be a factor if we suffer injuries like we did previously. We’ll need 10-12 in, and yes, several will need to be quality starters.

It is interesting in terms of the CEO saying we were down the line with players and just needed the new manager to sign off.

That is a misrepresentation of what Ashton said.

Think it all comes down to personal difinition of what his words mean

He said down the road and got signings to a point where it now needs managers input.

It could literally be we have a prolfie shortlist. Know the approx cost of the move but meed manager to decide who he wants

Or weve got players that have said yes. Weve got the finance side sorted but just wamt oneil to sign it off.

Or weve spoke to agents. They are keen but wanted to see who the manager was...

No one really knows and ashtons down the line could be anything really.

This is pretty close to what he said, and entirely supports my view that it's misrepresentation.

"...where it now needs managers input...." is a country mile from saying that there are signings ".. just waiting for the manager to sign off"

"We've got a lot of deals to where we need to get them, but a manager now needs input."

I dont entirely disagree with you however it was a sentence that is open to interpretation on what exactly down the road means and what exactly is that input.

No. As long as we don’t leave it too late. Like last season. Then blame poor results on new players needing time to gel. We can’t afford to do that this season. Still, plenty of time as it stands though, as season starts much later in the PL.

This will happen again, if you are premier league or championship all the best players have options they are going to wait and pick the best choice.

Can’t believe people think we can click our fingers and have a complete squad by mid July

The only Muff in Town.

I'm sure we'd all do our best to keep believing but I think if we lost our first 5 it would be a pretty reasonable conclusion that we were nailed on for relegation.

But that still isn’t ‘cut adrift’ is it. So we lose the first five games and that’s that! We need to get at least 40 points, it doesn’t matter when we get them.
