The big questions are whether the UK would have been overstretched and thus easy pickings for Napoleon Bonaparte, and secondly, had the UK overcome that hurdle, would an American Empire have held sufficient attraction that the Imperial land grab under Victoria wouldn't have happened in Africa and India?
