| La Liga telling FIFA enough is enough 14:47 - Jul 7 with 1279 views | WeWereZombies | https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo 'La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticised the "complicit silence" which surrounds FIFA after United States striker Folarin Balogun was controversially spared from suspension at the 2026 World Cup...UEFA, which has been at loggerheads with FIFA over a number of issues, strongly criticised the decision on Monday, calling it "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable"...Conmebol, the South American football confederation, issued a statement to back its referee, Raphael Claus, after US president Donald Trump called the Brazilian "a bit suspect".,..Tebas said that the Balogun decision was the "tip of the iceberg" following a series of events which had been "eroding the credibility of FIFA and football in general for many years". The 63-year-old accused FIFA of being a closed shop in which decisions have been made before any vote takes place and without consultation with domestic leagues. "And the worst of all is that much of the football world is aware of it, but too many prefer to maintain a complicit silence," Tebas said on X. "Because staying quiet is more comfortable than defending independence, transparency, and good governance. World football deserves institutions that are accountable, respect the rules, and govern with transparency - not through unilateral, discretionary, arbitrary decisions that erode the trust of fans, clubs, leagues, and players."' I didn't think the foul Harry Kane was supposed to have committed against Mexico was a foul. The red our player got was a red as was the foul the American committed. It was fortunate he didn't break the player's leg. How Trump just sees that as two professionals coming together baffles me. But then everything he does baffles me. He just thinks because of America's might that he can somehow influence every other country and rules on the planet. | | | |

The Premier League, Football Association and English Football League is a bit of a fragmented arrangement but one hopes that this is something they could all unite upon...now that the Spanish have given the rest of Europe the lead, Be interesting to see if the World Cup semi-finals are between four European nations, that would be the time for UEFA to start making the loudest noises about breaking away from FIFA.

For the avoidance of doubt, and because this sentiment often goes unsaid, but is an implicit, reasonable inference from everything he does: Donald Trump is an absolute c#nt.

They can ignore UEFA as long as the majority will still vote for Gianni. https://www.bbc.com/sport/foot "In April, Conmebol - the South American confederation - said its 10 countries would back Infantino. Three weeks later, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) confirmed unanimous backing from its 54 member associations. Point of order. I object to the term 'c#nt' in this context. As actually, said things are wonderful in many many ways. Whereas DT is nothing of the sort.

More likely than not given the biggest clubs would rather have the power and bulk of the wealth generated than give it to FIFA. Not sure one would call that principled mind....

I had a little look through the different Associations lists of previous Presidents and it is scary how many of them have been charged with corruption. I did a quick search of the followng 'how many people that have previously been associated with Fifa have received sanctions for corruption?' The answer according to AI (I know, I know) is over 30 Fifa associated officials! Nothing will get done about it and Infatino has managed to find a way to keep himself in seat....... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Shows how corrupt most of these association heads are - fans from several African, Asian and central American countries weren't allowed to travel to the WC in US and yet they're voting to re-elect the person in charge of it all

You don't have to beat Infantino, you just have to bypass him - and UEFA are the association to do that. If South American and African clubs no longer have the pathway to sell players to European clubs they are going to find their balance sheets in disarray quite quickly.

Sorry don't understand what you mean by " things are wonderful in many many ways". What things? Everything DT touches turns to stink.

Cash flows freely from FIFa to the confederations and then down to individual associations, votes flow in the opposite direction.
