Elgin Marbles, Benin Bronzes... 08:12 - Jul 10 with 1372 viewsbluelagos

Surely it's time to add the Bayeaux Tapestry too?

It was made in England so we'd only be reclaiming what's ours.

That'll stick it to the French.

(For the avoidance of doubt, tongue firmly in cheek)

They originals should be brought back to Suffolk and housed at the Sutton Hoo exhibition. Just like the Benin bronzes should be returned to Nigeria etc.

And Elvis Costello should be returned to The Costello Memorial Chapel !

Poll: To make him more acceptable what should Gary O'Neill change his middle name to ?

He should indeed

Though it is quite small, so he might need to form himself into a ball to fit in.

Wonder if Charlie could just hide it away in one of his palaces with all the other stolen antiquities his family have been hoarding for generations?

Most of the stuff in royal palaces is I gather, gifts. Whether they are gifts under duress and stolen stuff I’ve no idea.

The Americans and the French have a lot of giving back to do and as for Spain and Portugal, these place will be stripped bare if they give back what the pinched off the S American locals or at least the descendants of those they didn’t murder.

You probably need to look further into the idea of them being gifts.

Perhaps start with the Koh I Noor diamond. Ripped from the hands of the 10 year old Maharaja and now in the crown jewels. Definitely not a gift

The Benin Bronze was one of my favourite Lovejoy episodes, with a lovely performance by Maurice Denham.

Wasn't that "The Benign Bronze"?

Not really. I covered that in the first sentence.

The diamond? The kid probably deserved a clip round the ear for hanging on to it too long. He was probably cruel to his downtrodden subjects so deserved another one for that.

As it goes, there's about four different countries that claim ownership. I suggest to keep everyone happy, give it to me and I’ll look after it….

The way he can bend his ankles, I doubt that should be too much of a problem. Freaky. Scary. Snap.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!
