| Slow recruitment? 08:20 - Jul 10 with 2292 views | ringwoodblue | I acknowledge that Sunderland didn’t have a new manager and there wasn’t a World Cup last summer but they’d already signed 6 players by 10th July Date Pos. Player Fee Ref. 1 July 2025 CM Enzo Le Fée Italy Roma £19,300,000 1 July 2025 CM Habib Diarra France Strasbourg £30,000,000 4 July 2025 CM Noah Sadiki. Belgium Union Saint-Gilloise £17,500,000 8 July 2025 LB Reinildo Mandava Spain Atlético Madrid Free 9 July 2025 RW Chemsdine Talbi Belgium Club Brugge £19,500,000 10 July 2025 LW Simon Adingra Brighton and Hove Albion £21,000,000 Really happy with the Emersonn signing but should we be concerned about the lack of other signings at this stage? | |

I suspect you are right, the start of season has been delayed as a result squads are coming back together later, decisions may also be delayed
| Slow recruitment? on 10:10 - Jul 10 with 1871 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | The World Cup will have played a factor. The transfer window could accelerate in the latter weeks of July. I think it is also important to recognise that this is the first week of pre-season and the first time O'Neil and the coaching staff have met the playing squad. It is McKenna's squad that he built which O'Neil has inherited. New relationships between the playing and coaching staff will be formed and O'Neil will have an idea of what he wants to add going off video footage, but this is the first look at the squad in person. O'Neil won't completely strip the squad apart and bring in a whole new team, he will be looking at where he can improve upon what he currently has. Recruitment will happen. The recruitment team will have targets lined up in every position. We just have to trust the process and be patient. | |

| Slow recruitment? on 10:42 - Jul 10 with 1792 views | Nutkins_Return | You more or less answered this yourself with the World Cup having a massive impact on the transfer window. It's not even about the players we sign necessarily but everything cascades down from the top clubs really. Worth point out we are on a slightly different time frame anyway. The season starts a week later as well. We are at 3x signings so far. No getting away from the fact of course Sunderland did very good business. But don't think we just have to copy and paste what they did anyway. | |

| Slow recruitment? on 11:16 - Jul 10 with 1688 views | Hermann_eats_puffin | Yes I think that the world cup will have had an impact because so many of the top level players who might make a move and those moves will start a trickle down effect will have been delayed because of the world cup (ignoring say the Anderson transfer but in general some moves will have been delayed). But regarding Sunderland's signing of Enzo Le Fée yes whilst they might of signed him on a permanent deal which went through on the 1st of July 2025 they signed him on loan from Roma on the 10 January 2025 for the remainder of the season with a mandatory obligation which would be triggered if Sunderland got promoted. So that's not really any different in terms of the deal than us having had Kipre & Akpom on loan and then having a trigger to buy them permanently when we got promoted. However yes I agree that in an ideal world we would like to have signings in early so that they can do pre season with us and get used to out patterns of play, systems and teammates. The club are evidently trying to sign players and just in the last 24 hours TWTD posted the story about us trying to sign Anan Khalaili but he's gone to Inter Milan. I for one am pleased that we are aiming high with the quality of player that we are trying to sign. However that means that we won't sign all of our top targets because unfortunately when say we're competing with Inter Milan to sign a player there is probably only going to be one winner but that's not to say that we shouldn't try. At the other end of the scale we could easily go out and sign a League One player this afternoon if we wanted to because a club would be eager to sell to us and a player would want to come. But the player wouldn't be of the quality we need so if we're going to be aiming high in terms of the quality of player recruitment we're going to have to be patient and accept that some of our attempts won't come off. | | | |

With further top ups in Jan. There's going to be some bleating from fans that we aren't ready come game-day. They may sadly be right, but here's hoping!

| Slow recruitment? on 11:38 - Jul 10 with 1569 views | alial | I suspect Sunderland had the majority of this done prior to the start of July. Looking at Skysports, the Athletic and the Premier league websites, it suggest the following: Scouting and Approvals: Behind the scenes, scouting can take months or years. Once a player is identified, initial agent talks and club-to-club negotiations typically last 1 to 3 weeks. Medical and Paperwork: Once a fee is agreed upon, a deal is usually finalized in 2 to 5 days, which includes the medical, contract drafting, and work permit processing. So, from first conversation to Town announcing on X, it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks all going well. Considering Gaz O'Neil only was announced 2 weeks ago which lines up with Emersonn signing (2 weeks) I would expect a flurry of transfers in the next 2 weeks. No player is signing for us without knowing who the manager is, so that has delayed us v. Sunderland last season and also throw into the mix the WC. [Post edited 10 Jul 11:39]

If so that doesn’t really tally with Ashton saying a number of deals are down the road.

They may have been, Wilson for example perhaps until a better offer came in The fella who's gone to inter who knows There could have been players who were keen but then saw who the manager was and thought against it, we will never know

It scares me tbh that one of the people involved in the process heavily looks like a salesman who sells you a lexus but you end up with a skoda

It scares me that one was involved with Man U . For 15 years I believe and look at some of the disasters they have signed in the last 8-10 years.

Nick Pope was meant to have signed by now, and the social media experts were claiming he'd be unveiled at the kit launch. Then Walton appeared and they all went quiet.

Newcastle won't let Pope go until they have got Trafford.
