| Anan Khalaili to Inter is off. on 22:25 - Jul 13 by MalcolmBlue | In a word - superb. If he has to leave USG then I’d only be happy if he comes to us. He’s a real towering presence in goal. He has all the good qualities of Muric, but without the moments of madness. He’s brilliant at claiming crosses and corners and a great shot stopper. His reflexes, for such a big guy, is what really impresses me though. Also, he’s at an age where he can still develop as a keeper. For me if we want someone to push Walton and potentially come in to replace him as number one, Kjell’s the guy. |
Not suggesting him for a move to Town, but what are your thoughts of Ross Sykes for USG? (He’s married to KJ’s cousin, so seen his progression from Accrington, but haven’t personally seen much of him playing since he moved there)

He was actually quite a surprise package last season. He was out of the team and managed to fight his way in and didn’t put a foot wrong all season, playing on the left side of a back three. He seems like a good character, but his game is quite limited. He does the basics well. The club have already signed two new CBs as well as one DM who can also play CB in this transfer window and they had a couple of youngsters on the books who are knocking on the door of the first team. Hopefully he can keep his place in the starting eleven, if he continues to dig in and be consistent he might be ok.

| Anan Khalaili to Inter is off. on 17:28 - Jul 13 by MalcolmBlue | We should 100% still go for this kid. I can’t stress enough how good he is. Him on one wing and Leif on the other would be dreamy. To put it in context, I watch USG games quite regularly and he was by far the best player on the team last season at right wing back. In the champions league he scored or got the assist for practically all the goals they scored. He’s exactly what we need and we’d be doing very well to sign a player of his calibre. |
Need to careful here for the players sake as much as anything. Previously undetected heart problems however minor early on can become something much greater. Just ask those who have collapsed on a football pitch because of it and are still with us.Unfortunately you can't ask those that did the same but didn't survive. For his own sake he needs to get things thoroughly checked out.

The tests in Italy are very strict because people can be held criminally liable if something happens to a player on the pitch. All clubs should have a duty of care to all their players as sudden cardiac arrests can happen to anyone regardless of hereditary factors.

Thanks for that. Interesting to see how he responds to the challenge of competition as to whether he can find a place - or are the new signings massive upgrades? Do you think he’d slip down pecking order or maybe move on?

I’m not sure yet as I haven’t seen any of the new signings play yet. So far it looks like he’s retaining his place in the preseason friendlies he’s started every game so far. The only CB from last season not start games is Christian Burgess but that’s because he wasn’t retained and now signed for Ghent.

| Anan Khalaili to Inter is off. on 17:10 - Jul 13 by Zx1988 | I'm in two minds on that. He's undoubtedly talented, and the sort of player we would love to have in the team. However, the understanding is that he failed the more rigorous heart-related part of the Italian medical, which would bar him from playing in Italy full-stop. Admittedly it may be a minimal risk, but is it the sort of risk we'd want to be taking? |
Italian medicals are notoriously strict. Any inkling of a cardiovascular anomaly and they wont touch him. There's a much lower bar in the Premier League, so as long as it's not a serious risk, it's a risk we should be willing to take to secure a genuinely outstanding wing-back.
