No, I don't want to waste the investment in fittings to the rubber ring that we have already committed to. Rowlocks

| They’re not yours though lads. on 22:19 - Jul 16 by WeWereZombies | Stable economy ? Really ? The peso is worth less than a quarter of what it was worth when Milei came to power: https://tradingeconomics.com/a Anecdotally the only travellers I have met who have been to Argentina recently were a Danish couple in Colombia last year who had just been, said poverty was rampant and they felt like they were the only tourists around. This compares unfavourably with the month or so I spent in Argentina three years ago when times were difficult but the nation seemed vibrant and there were loads of travellers too. The disasters of the current President's time in office are well documented and a World Cup final will only paper over the cracks for so long. |
Indeed was rather surprised at that comment given inflation in Argentina is running at 33% (driven by currency collapse making imports incredibly expensive). The collapse of their currency means the cost of repaying their USD denominated debt is now skyrocketing. For that reason they are having to finance IMF loan repayments via sale of state assets and loans from the US (risking losing their financial sovereignty). Believe around 1/3 of the value of IMF loans globally are in respect of Argentina alone! https://www.reuters.com/world/ So then you can see why their government are always eager to rattle the sabre about a small island in the Atlantic. if he misses, he'd end up in argentina which is basically a wonderland of farage-style policies, so he can get a taste of what nige has in store for him. win win!

It's a wonderful place; I'd highly recommend it to anyone considering a change of scenery. The government is always advertising for jobs, which come with a house: https://ats-fig.jgp.co.uk/vaca [Post edited 17 Jul 13:17]

Do you think being able to say “Oi you can’t park that there” is sufficient to be an Assistant Harbour Master, the main guy will handle the other boaty stuff surely?

Change 'park' to 'anchor' and you might be fine.

Surely the island needs an archaeologist? Who else is gonna slow down the planning procedure and make up random stuff about the past?

| They’re not yours though lads. on 15:44 - Jul 17 by leitrimblue | The Benters ancestors discovered most of the world and constructed all ancient monuments theory is definitely gaining traction. I believe ancient DNA from skeletal remains of a burial outside Stonehenge as already been matched to Benters. While Egyptologistst are constantly pushing the Benters ancestors built the Pyramids theory. Apparently the Sphinx is purely a representation of one of Benters favorite cats |

| They’re not yours though lads. on 19:44 - Jul 17 with 405 views | armchaircritic59 | Interestingly the Falkland Islands were or rather the eastern part of it was occupied firstly by the French, the British claimed the western part a year later in 1765. I'd imagine the French are very glad they are out of it. The real reasons Britain wants to maintain it's claim there are these. Britain maintains the islands for strategic military access in the South Atlantic, access to valuable fishing and oil resources, and as a gateway for scientific research in Antarctica. To put it in a nutshell, it's what we get out of it, not an undying love for the islanders themselves. | | | |

The UK government gets nothing out of the fisheries and oil. The money made from these industries goes to the Falkland Islands government, local companies and the international companies that invest in the islands or partner with local ones. [Post edited 17 Jul 20:27]
