what's always made me think is how many of our recent "high potential" young players have had such serious or on-going injuries that have really derailed their careers:

Bishop
Lankester
Dozzell
Nydam
Morris
even Baggott seemed to always pick something up as soon as he got a string of games

I'm sure there are more. Not suggesting anything about our youth set up that's caused it, just seems like an awful string of luck

Brett McGavin always looked very assured on the ball.

So many facets involved in becoming a professional Footballer, not just Ability or Mindset it's how your body hold up to the rigors of the game and that's where a lot fall short, plenty of promising players bodies just couldn't handle the intensity.

Look at Tennis with Raducanu and Draper, just can't keep, or even get fit. Constantly breaking down.

Must be soul destroying having made the grade only for your body to let you down.

Indeed, lost of talented young footballers don't quite make it, partly as a result of a lack of physicality, or some are just unlucky with injuries. I still think the desire and willingness to work hard is often a differentiator.

I was told when he was still in the academy that they had some new equipment which measured passing accuracy and he was ranked top, ahead of all the senior players.

Ben Knight, supposedly the best young player Klug saw but swallowed up in the Man City machine, finally seems to be starting to play and score regularly in L2 at 24.

I used to work with the guy that coached his U7's team before he went to Ipswich. Not quite as esteemed an authority as Bryan Klug, but he also said he was an incredible talent. They had to limit his game time to give everyone else on the pitch a chance to touch the ball. I'm glad he's back playing well for his local club.

Andre Dozzell was the one that really surprised me. Another former colleague (same company, they also had an ex-town yoof there - the 5-a-side team was quite something) has a UEFA B license and when doing courses at St Georges Park came back reporting that everyone was talking about Andre stepping up to the England mens team.
