I think it was summer of 91 we played pre season game at Gillingham. It was baking hot and iirc ended 0-0. Little did we know the joys ahead. |  |

Preseasons are strange.
I remember years ago Paul Furlong (sorry Darnell if reading this) had an amazing preseason for Chelsea, banged in something like 8 goals in about 4 games. Some of the papers were predicting he would be a shoo-in for the first England game that season. However it didn't work out that way, I think Chelsea purchased Mark Hughes and that restricted Furlong's appearances and he only scored 3 goals in the actual season and wasn't named in the England squad.
