| Necessary depth - the Tuanzebe exemplar 11:32 - Aug 8 with 1393 views | unstableblue | People questioning having 3 central midfielders who are deep lying and defensive (Florentino the most defensive, Matusiwa in the middle and Lukic with perhaps a little more going forward but still a holder) Key lesson from our Premier League season is you need real depth in key positions to stand any chance - Delap was supposed to be number 2 striker and ended up with him as primary and Al Hamadi as secondary! Nuts. Phillips and Cajuste had injuries and a a lack of form - it killed us. And for me the glaring one was Axel - he was making our system and team click at places like Brighton and Spurs - his long loss to injury was crippling. I suspect we may see quite a few more through the door 5+, Burns gone opens a spot. Still expecting we’ll have a marquee signing, beyond even Enciso (which sounds some way off). Probably as striker or 8. We’ll need that. | |

Basically a massive upgrade on Dan Neil and a higher level Luongo. If we are playing double pivot then perfect. He's a really versatile CM. I think we will also be looking for another more creative CM but anyone we bring in needs to be able to do a bit of everything.

Taylor improved last season, but he's 28 & IMO not going to be a PL player. At his age, playing regularly for a Championship club is probably his best option.

We also have to learn when to sell players at the right moment their stock is high. I have absolutely no problem with JT remaining in the squad btw, he's probably at his peak right now and was one of our better players last season - but if we were to sell Hirst, Taylor & H. Clarke between the 3 of them we could rake in £20m which is a ridiculous return on a £4.5m outlay when we've probably got the max out of all 3 we ever will.

Taylor just feels like the perfect squad player to me. Not sure why being 28 should rule him out either. Obviously it all depends on the replacements. If we sign Rodri then it's probably okay for Taylor to leave.

Obviously not with all three of the CDM's! Gives options for different games at the very least.
