Fifth heatwave of the summer inbound, and noticeable that many of the climate deniers / business as usual proponents / excuse makers are getting more angsty and vocal after a few years of very little response to threads challenging business as usual.

- The much cited 1976 had 16 days of 30C+ temperatures.
- 1995 had the record number of days of 30C+ temperatures with 34 days
- 2026 is currently at 33 days (yesterday just missed with 29.8C) but is expected to have at least 3 days next week over 30C which will break the record and we still have more than half of August left.

Temperatures at the end of the week will likely be nearer to 40 degrees than 30!

The stats are ridiculous. We had only 3 days reaching 36°C in the Twentieth Century. We matched that in the June heatwave this year and will possibly exceed it this week as our fifth heatwave kicks in.

The stats are ridiculous. We had only 3 days reaching 36°C in the Twentieth Century. We matched that in the June heatwave this year and will possibly exceed it this week as our fifth heatwave kicks in.

It's very sad really. But hopefully presenting the data clearly like this will get through to someone who will make a difference.
I always like to point out the following differences:
The Greenhouse Effect (like the effect of glass in a greenhouse) is a scientific proven phenomenon that, although natural, is clearly significantly impacted by chemicals humans put into the atmosphere. Global warming (as the name implies) is about the average temperature of the planet increasing and is clearly observed in the data. Climate Change is about the change in natural weather patterns. Anyone who cannot spot that this is happening where they live (wherever they are in the world) isn't paying attention.

Water standpipes in 76 though, so it must have been hotter!
Anyway, I suspect people will continue to main about the consequences without thinking about the cause. Or ignoring it because they’re bored of it.
It’ll be moaning about the price of food next. We’re in for an especially bad carrot year apparently! We’re having to import lots already where we’re normally self-sufficient. (And other crops are being affected of course).

You don't have to see statistics.
I was born in 1959, so grew up in the 60s and 70s.
1976 was definitely an outlier, and temperatures much above 73 degrees (in old money) for my formative years were very much a rarity.
I might add that I have been visiting an area south of Alicante off and on for 40 years. Temperatures above 32 degrees were exceptional but these days are common, and a couple of weeks ago it exceeded 41 degrees, as it did a couple of years ago, very high for somewhere on the coast.
