Election Day - Farage again saying he will ignore Parliament 13:30 - Aug 13 with 1464 viewsElderGrizzly

And only the Clacton voters can decide if he is guilty or innocent of his financial misdemeanors.

All to just do this again in October when he is found guilty.

"Why should I be judged, today or in history in the future, by Sky News and their ilk? Why should they be the people that decide my fate when, as I repeat, I’ve done nothing wrong.

I’m being judged as being guilty every single day by newspapers, broadcasters and elsewhere.

I will happily accept the judgement of these voters … I’ve decided that the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions. This will be a people versus the establishment byelection."

...because the voters of Clacton are totally not a biased set of jurors. Oh no. Definitely not.

Is he trying out-Trump Trump with that rubbish? It's completely ridiculous. I really feel for the people of Clacton having to host this farce, as I wouldn't be especially happy with the thought of a comedy character being the main opposition on the ballot.

Something needs to change to prevent this sort of nonsense, you shouldn't be allowed to call a by-election only to stand in it yourself. I cannot think of any scenario where that could ever be justified.

I do hope he didn't say this today. After all, electioneering is barred on polling day itself.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Agree and if found guilty by the Standards Commission that should debar anyone from standing again. No matter the party.

As you say, it's farce as there will be another election in a couple of months and he'll stand again.

I think the Standards Commission decide the Guilty/ Not Guilty of the charges and also the tarriff ....

They have a number of options available depending on seriousness of the infraction

Anything more than a 10 day suspension allows for a recall petition to be triggered if the voters in the constituency wish

If the recall petition reaches the set percentage then a by election follows

A very minor infraction of the rules should not mean a life ban plus by election....that would be madness

Agree. There should be a sliding scale depending on seriousness and the co-operation of the 'defendant'.

The fact Farage is now trying to say what Parliament says doesn't count when he campaigned for 20 years to make Parliament sovereign is a lovely angle to it all.

Ah, but he's a left woke uniparty traitor or something.

It still amuses me that Farage, the public school educated, city trader, who has been in front-line politics since 1994 is saying he isn't the establishment.

Well he says he's done nothing wrong so case closed. And if the electorate think he's broken the rules today then they won't vote for him, unless they already have before he broke the rules, but he said he hasn't so it doesn't matter. Anyway stop picking on him you establishment shill.

The Electoral Commission's rules about campaigning and media on polling day state:

"Campaigning is allowed on polling day, so you might see campaign material on social media or receive a leaflet through your door on polling day itself."

I guess posting drivel on social media is covered by that.

Edited to correct original info that came from the Commission's page on "Combined Authority Mayoral elections" which today's isn't.

Look I know it seems like I nicked your car and it is in fact currently parked in my garage, but I conducted a very rigorous poll with voters in Walton-in-the-Naze and they seem persuaded that I didn't in fact do it, so that means I didn't.

Actually, I think you're right. It's inside polling stations that it's banned.

Walton-on-the-Nazi

Has anyone done that one yet?

Apparently not, according to Duck Duck Go.

Seems rather obvious, if a little lazy.
