he doesn't care when hate-preacher farage threatens to get rid of the nhs, he doesn't mind when that same nhs saves his life. he doesn't care when farage threatens immigrants and stirs up rage and hatred against them, he doesn't mind when those immigrants save his life. often a life-changing health incident makes you see the error of your ways. maybe it will when the heroin wears off?

| Nigel wins yaay on 10:12 - Aug 14 by LeoMuff | I wouldn’t stress, Farage is history, declining and split support and shown he would crack under the pressure applied when threatened to get close to power. His main source of achieving success was immigration and Labour have blown that ship out of the water. I would wager there’s plenty of skeletons in his wardrobe that will finish him off when the times right. |
The problem is you have large swathes of the UK that feels so unrepresented that they are willing to vote for a chancer like Nig. Finding more skeletons in Nigels wardrobe may well finish him off but it's not gonna improve their lives or suddenly solve the situation. Perhaps politicians/governments need to look into the needs of those that feel so unrepresented? Perhaps some kinda plan to attempt to improve their lot may help? Their not just gonna dissappear if Nigel is taken outta the picture.

what kind of plan do you suggest that would move the needle? having a plan to improve the lot of anyone other than nigel farage hasn't been reform's strong point, yet they were popular anyway. it's only by shining a light on reform's incompetence and corruption that has seen them retreat a bit, keep doing it and the number of true believers will dwindle

It was a little more than a suit and a pair of glasses https://www.theguardian.com/po He also rinsed the ‘hard working taxpayer’ when at CPS more successfully than predecessors or successor. https://www.independent.co.uk/ He might have been a useless PM, but like my MOD mate, he certainly knew how to complete an expenses claim! To be fair, he did nothing illegal and is not alone in living high on the hog of public money, as the attached Guardian article points out. As for getting rid of the NHS, this is something Labour claims and Reform deny. The truth of it we will never know since they’ll never be elected but the attached is an interesting read. https://fullfact.org/health/re

Absolutely spot on. The Brexit vote should have been the wake up call but it's got progressively more detached since. Reform are unlikely to be able to solve the complex issues we face, but lots of people have nothing to lose in voting for them. The absolute contempt with which Labour have treated their historic voter base is incredible and the Conservatives simply aren't a Conservative Party anymore. In the 1980s the working class vote was virtually neck and neck between Labour and the Conservatives and that was repeated in the 2010s. What a wasted opportunity to initiate change.

I dont have a plan unfortunately. I imagine it would at least begin with going into areas like Clacton and Haverhill etc and possibly listening to some of the locals concerns beyond immigration. You don't need to be a sociologist to see these areas have been neglected for generations. In my opinion that neglect as left a vacuum thats been filled by the likes of Nig and worse I just don't believe removing Nigel will make much difference long term. These people are just gonna go back to feeling unrepresented and wait for the next chancer to tap into their anger.

The temptation of corruption is endemic throughout politics. See Wes Streeting and his many donations including from private healthcare providers And Tulip Siddiq, the anti-corruption minister....... And the appointment of Mandy. I could go on. So even though the same stench hangs over Farage, people feel they have no choice | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Labours lack of understanding/contempt for their historic voter base as clearly added to if not caused this problem. I think the end of yer 2nd paragraph hits the nail on the head. Reform are unlikely to be able to solve anything, but lots of people feel they have absolutely nothing to lose by voting for um. Much of the blame for this has to come down to the other political parties failure to appeal/represent them

You know about streeting because he declares the donations... Which is the key issue here.

Why are you trying to talk about principles? This is the usual nonsense of trying to make out they’re on the same ethical footing. Starmer declared his gifts, and claimed his expenses according to the rules. Maybe you think the rules are wrong? Fair enough if so, but that’s a different conversation altogether. Farage did not declare his gifts, and there is simply no supportable explanation as to why he didn’t. So he is orders of magnitude worse, both in principle AND in amount.

Well £100,000 (declared) in gifts and boodles isn’t to be sniffed at. Hardly chump change, though of course it may be to multi millionaire Sir Kier. In term of false equivalence, where do you draw the line? Is it ok up to whatever Starmer grabs but not above? Or do we just ring fence those we don’t like very much? Personally, I would set donations and gifts to individuals at zero. Take a free ticket you may as well take everything. An acquaintance of mine (a tax inspector with decades of service) was secretary for his rugby club. He stole or borrowed a few pounds from the petty cash. He lost his HMRC job and career. Did the punishment fit the crime? Too right it did. If he’d scooped up a 50p piece that wasn’t his, I’d have fired him. There is a principle and a line which if you step over that’s that. Now Starmer has not done anything against the rules. Nothing wrong. Maybe the rules need amending.

So in the meantime is it fine not to comply with rules we don’t think should apply? What else can we get away with then?

stick to the rules is the key here. happy if they continue to change further (improvements have come in since duckhousegate and boris' covidfastlanegate), but nigel will never campaign for more rules and more transparency to impede his (and his mates) ability to make money at the voters expense

I don't understand the game. Let's not set it up that I am defending Farage. The situation here is the corruptibility of politicians. Starmer absolutely failed to register donations in the time and in the correct way. The point I was making was connecting the way Labour behave vs the Principles they pretend to represent. We all know what we get with Farage, it's baked in. Why on earth senior Labour figures don't practice what they preach I don't know. Deflecting every point to be 'yeah, but Farage is worse' doesn't explain why people aren't voting for Labour/Conservatives.

I’m not sure what you mean. I am saying the rules are not good enough but nowhere have I said what there is should not be complied with and Sir Kier to my knowledge has done that. If Farage has broken the rules, he deserves whatever the punishment is. Personally, I was always meticulous when it came to expenses and even if the opportunity had been there I’d never have filled my boots the way Starmer has. Where this becomes a grey area is things like Rayner fiddling her taxes. Is there anything in the rules to say she should lose her Cabinet job over trousering a bit of Stamp Duty? Probably not, but I’d be surprised if too many would argue that she didn’t deserve to be booted out.

when starmer was accused of not following the rules did he a) apologise and agree to be investigated? b) change his story several times, throw a hissy fit and waste tax payer's time and money by calling a by-election? the amount is vastly different, the influence is vastly different, the response is vastly different. why you continue to draw a false equivalence (to farage's perceived benefit) whilst claiming to not be backing farage is truly bizarre

A false equivalence typically follows this flawed logic:Thing A has Feature X.Thing B also has Feature X.Therefore, Thing A and Thing B are equal. I didn't do this, it's in black and white above.

in black and white, "corruption is endemic in politics", "the same stench hangs over farage" if you weren't intending to create a false equivalence, you should have said "a far worse stench hangs over farage"
