What surprises me is that Sunderland have not spent a penny yet, just brought in 1 free transfer. Curious as to whether it relates to financial controls or confidence in the squad . . .

Only Chelsea ahead of us in net spend now (just the £70m ahead of us at the moment, and that's despite £140m worth of players sales)

That may be true but think they are announcing a couple this week? That said Meunier on a free is a damn good transfer.

Probably don’t have a lot of headroom, I’d expect us to be the same if we stay up unless we realise a couple of big fees.

Net spend is a rubbish statistic though.

Really isn't...Newcastle have spent 20m Euros more than us on transfers this window. If you don't take into account player sales, you'd assume they'd strengthened more than we have, but when they've sold Tonali, Guimaraes and Gordon for a combined 70m Euros more than their total spend, it gives a clearer picture of their transfer business.

I guess it's not broke don't fix it? stability is so important too which is why staying up this time is so key for us, we can't keep flip flopping between divisions and the churn that brings
