Weird that he's still in post for the new season, I was just wondering if anyone knows what the Saints fans think of all this (I've not been on any of their forums and don't know any)?
This guy has potentially cost them a place in the Prem, are they up in arms /hating on him (as I think I would be)... or seeing him as the victim vs the evil EFL?
Seems amazing to me that they've essentially been forced to go into a new season with the man who cost them a shot at the Prem still being in charge. |  |

we've seen similar with our own club.
if you do something incredibly stupid that brings the club into disrepute, you can get away with it given time and enough distractions! |

true, on the other side, at least eckert did properly apologise!
my point was that morality is flexible for some fans if other parts of the job are successful. no way would ashton/eckert have stayed if the clubs had struggled... |  |

Didn’t know that - I can’t imagine that behaviour that was considered perfectly fine just six years ago has just suddenly stopped.
Think most clubs have probably continued to do it but Southampton were caught so were punished. |  | | |

I've got a Southampton supporting friend. A very intelligent chap and not in the slightest bit hot headed. Usually have very measured and reasonable footballing conversations with him. His view is that Southampton were incredibly harshly done by and that the blame lies more with the EFL than with Eckert.
I think he expected Eckert to be out of a job after the hearing (or whatever process was taking place) and he seemed a bit disappointed by this but they've had tonnes of managers in recent years so wasn't too fussed. I've not spoken to him since it's become clear that Eckert is staying. |
