Time to reappraise Danny Murphy ? The BBC pundits prediction summary 08:31 - Aug 20 with 1081 viewsWeWereZombies

'Danny Murphy: I am not talking about the top four, but Ipswich might surprise a few people and, out of the the ones who have come up, be the team who don't struggle.

They have spent quite a lot, and brought in about a dozen players, like Sunderland did last year, and again they have brought in a similar type of player too, with a lot of athleticism.

Their manager Gary O'Neil did all right at Wolves and Bournemouth and he will be as well-equipped as ever to know which games to go after, and when to dig in.'

Or do we think 'Thanks for the kiss of death, Danny' ?

I have no problem with Murphy and you get the odd nugget of wisdom as long as you can stay awake long enough. I don’t think I’ll be changing my view based on him saying something nice about us though.

He’s right of course. We might surprise a few people. But then again we might not.

Don’t you just ‘love’ this time of the season!

I've always quite liked Danny Murphy as a pundit. He's like the new Mark Lawrenson, doesn't really want to be there and thinks modern football is rubbish.

This is unusual for a pundit not to study what the bookies think and what his peers are saying. Has he drawn his own opinion? Unheard of. I'm surprised nobody is saying this is a good year to be promoted. There are a lot of teams with uncertain futures. I would say at least five of the existing 17 are vulnerable, plus the three promoted. That is a lot of uncertainty.

Palace: lost their gaffer and some of their top players. Might have enough goals to be in deep trouble.
Newcastle: Lost some big players. If joelinton goes too they are in a world of trouble.
Sunderland: Had a brilliant first 60% of their season and then fell off a cliff a bit. Europe might ruin them.
Fulham: Lost their manager and some key players. Potentially refreshed the age of their players, but have they kept enough solid pro's?
Leeds: I think they have potential, but will be shaky if they have a run of injuries.

Plus the three promoted teams. Lots of unknown futures.

No problem, I was actually a bit worried for you as separating a rat from its own @rse must be a tricky job so I can see why you didn't go for it...

Murphy has backed us in the past, tbf.

You can add Villa to that mix, same boat as Newcastle, not suggesting they’ll be anywhere near relegation but they might struggle to be top end of the table and vulnerable for a while.

Add in

Bournemouth: Lots of turnover, new manager and Europe to deal with.
Brighton: Streaky team, capable of some really bad runs and also Thurs/Sun slog.
Brentford: On paper they look average, can they keep performing above the sum of their parts?

Each of these 7/8 teams will be really difficult to finish above, but we only need one to implode (as long as we can stay ahead of Cov and Hull obviously, which won't be easy).
