Calm before the storm. Possibly the season where we see the next era of the Gamechanger period? We're heading over points again...
Half fascinated, half unsettled by the unstoppable force of the yank investment and ambition.
Is this the beginning of establishing Town at the very top again? I know staying up is all that matters but it's not impossible that we are now closer than we think to designs on European football again and challenging for trophies...
And for what it's worth, I think we'll finish 9th. I think we're going to surprise people.

I think we will finish 15th, which will be a good stepping stone for further development. Who knows what is in store. But to reach 15th we will need another good CM and a good striker, and perhaps a few more - but those two are a must. Palacios and Ueda would be great. [Post edited 20 Aug 21:43]

My view is that if we are going to have a chance of 9th we will need a CM in the mould of Palacios, a striker of Ueadas quality, another central defender that goes straight into the team - at least of Diops quality, a left back that has more defensive strength that we can put in when we play more tough opposition or to close games when we are ahead, and one more right sided winger that perhaps can play as a 10 as well that is more of a threat then McAteer, Mehmeti and Egeli. if we get this right - 9th is possible!

Not totally unrealistic, reasonably unlikely but the business we have done this summer is light years ahead of summer 2024 and Sunderland have shown that promoted teams can achieve top half if things align.

I like your optimism, and share a lot of it. But i do think we need a more defensive option at left back for some phases of the game, and maybe greaves can do a job, but i would prefer more of a natural tough left back that take his defensive duties first. [Post edited 20 Aug 22:50]

I'd say given our ( current ) striking options, Emersonn ( young, inexprienced at this level but promising ) and Akpom, you are certainly being very brave. We have another couple that can play as a nine, but it isn't their main position. Maybe you've factored in another striker coming in very soon, which I think is a certainty, but still brave! |  | | |

Sunderland finished 7th in the Prem, scoring just 42 goals. Only Palace (41), Burnley (38) and Wolves (27) scored fewer. Their final GD was -6.
In 13 of their 38 matches (34.2%) they did not score. In another 13 (34.2%), they scored one goal. In 7 (18.4%) they got two and in 5 (13.2%) they got 3.
Their top scorer was Brobbey with 7.

We finish 18th with the current squad I think, hoping by September 1st we can get the 3-4 or so more in to get us 17th-15th. Two starters and a few depth piece or two still needed.
If we get a LCB near Diop levels, Palacios and Embolo then we’d go from a credible PL 11 to a legit one! [Post edited 21 Aug 2:03]
