| Embolo signing for Atlanta (Daily Record) 11:09 - Aug 21 with 6420 views | NorthSuffolk | Haven’t seen it reported anywhere else, but Daily Record transfer news has just updated this morning saying Embolo is now close to Atlanta move. Hoping this is because we’ve opted for another target rather than him rejecting us. Or that the report isn’t true. [Post edited 21 Aug 11:11]

Hope MA does have another option or letting Hirst go so soon could be a mistake. We know we need better as good as GH has been, but you would get them in the door 1st?

But reading that Yahoo article that financial package is only what Atlanta would pay Rennes. Says noting on personal terms which we were lead to believe by l'equipe he rejected so assume they have increased those terms. Maybe we couldn't match part of the deal somewhere, maybe wages already allocated to Palacios and Jesus .. wishful thinking | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I really don't think Hirst's departure and a new #9 are as linked as people think. We clearly want one and we'll get one, but it would've taken quite a set of circumstances for us to need to keep Hirst. He's valuable from a profit perspective which we wanted to realise, and we have record signing Emersonn who has come in ahead of him. Enciso can play in the 9 and would play there before Hirst IMO, plus Akpom, who while I don't rate as highly as Hirst on grass and don't think he'll play a lot of football this season, I can understand financially why he's staying. In a system with 1 in that role, Hirst was effectively 3rd choice of 4 on merit IMO (assuming Emersonn is the upgrade he should be for £20m+), 4/4 in terms of the wider picture. We've got 2 league games between now and the window, I doubt Hirst would've featured in either and think its right for all parties to sanction that move now. [Post edited 21 Aug 11:38]

What gives you confidence we'll get another number 9 through the door? We've failed to sign the requisite number in every summer transfer window since Gamechanger came in. [Post edited 21 Aug 11:45]

I think Chelsea got Delap on the cheap last Summer and there was nothing we could do about it.

I get what you mean, but in theory he is. We only sold him for £30m because of his release clause, if that wasn’t there, given the current market, he would have gone for a lot more. So it’s understandable why they’d want more, even though he extremely underperformed expectations

Not sure I entirely agree. Going into a PL season with Emersonn, Akpom and Encisco as our No 9 options doesn't feel like attacking the league. It could be OK but I really wouldn't fancy us at all. We may get enough from the #10 or wingers but last time we heavily relied on the #9 to get the few goals we did. It is all beginning to feel like the last 2 summers, but as you say there is time left so have to trust MA and his confidence 'we are not done'.

I don't disagree about the current options, I suppose the question is whether going into a PL season with Emersonn, Akpom, Enciso and Hirst is any more ready. We absolutely need another, hence we're chasing, but Hirst's departure hasn't changed anything in that respect.

I know what you are saying but Hirst looked OK last time up top when we did have striker injuries. We were right to make sure we got some money coming in rather than keep loaning out players.

I think we'll see Enciso playing the 9 role a few times this season. Probably more often as a 10 but think he's someone who can play anywhere in attack. Might be more of a withdrawn 9 or false 9 but definitely an option in my humble opinion.
