I thought Leif and the rest of our defence played well, although Diop got caught a couple of times (didn't expect that).
Nunez and Fatawu had difficult first halves but looked a lot more comfortable in the second.
Emersonn looked a real handful and that goal would have given him so much confidence.
No need to mention Enciso and was outstanding - with a great work rate.
There will be tougher tests but this result gives us a platform to build on and with more additions could see us outside the bottom three come May! |  |

I think that the idea that Leif is not a sound defender has been massively overplayed for several years now. Almost as if people see his forward play and assume that he can't do it at the other end. |  |

I disagree as Leif himself admitted its a big part of his game that he wasnt ready for last time round. | |

But he was a bit dodgy in the prem 2 seasons ago, and by his own admission lost confidence. I think thevwhole team did after about 10 matches - it was painful to watch. This lot wont be the same as so many have been here before. |  |

I think Diop also gave the free kick away that led to the goal, right? Pretty rash challenge iirc.
I felt each of O’Shea, Greaves and Diop had their wobbly moments. Early on Sunderland created a few half chances with fairly simple through balls which should have been defended better. But equally each made impressive tackles when required. I imagine GON will keep that defensive unit unchanged and they’ll improve just by playing together more. |  | | |

Greaves was very good, although not as good as I thought he looked in the first 20 minutes when I was also attributing everything Lukic did to him (I didn't realise how similar they look, at least from a distance), the man was everywhere! [Post edited 22 Aug 22:00]

Little understanding so far. Brobbey got in behind too easily- neither appeared to accept they were the one to track him. | |
