Gets in the right place at the right time, makes a tackle, protects the ball well and makes good simple passes. Nunez did alright. He was fairly tidy on the ball next to him but not at the same level and not really a tackler is he? Think the midfield two played positionally very similar to how they did under McKenna. I think Lukic is the safe man we just need a direct sprayer and technically gifted midfielder next to him I think.

Depends on your original opinion of Skuse I guess. He did divide opinion.

Sunderland targeted our right side and at times Fatuwa got pulled out of position but was covered well, you can see he is trying to build the relationship with O’Shea. Maeda’s speed and relationship with Davis has settled quicker it seems. Add to the mix that Enciso seemingly given more freedom to roam and was very exciting to watch. It never seemed to get overwhelmed like it did 2 years ago and with Luis and Matusiwa to come back it will have more depth. Actually filled me with confidence for the season as it looked like a PL quality midfield, as did the team in general.

Skuse read the game well and was pretty good at timely interceptions. That was about it. To the point in hand Lukic was one of those players you don’t really notice until you suddenly realise what great job he’s doing and what a good player he is. Terrific player. Nunez was excellent too. Not seen the game back yet but he has quick feet, good control, is progressive and moves the ball on fast. He’s not the quickest but boy did he get about the pitch yesterday and rarely gave the ball away. Not the biggest, he is certainly feisty and not to be bullied by anybody. For me his best game for us and looked right at home at that level.

Went about it in a very controlled way, broke up S'land play with well timed tackles, passing was always what was required safe mostly but prepared to move it across field. Nunez played a bit safe in first half but have to remember that was his first PL game. 2nd half got into it more and did really well. Did a fantastic tackle at 1-1 to deny Brobbey, and people say he isn't physical but if you look at the direction he's coming from to stop Brobbey scoring he's basically having to use his body strength to get brobbey away/round him, which he did, and given the physical strength of Brobbey that is some going. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Skuse was generally very good at what he did. My issue was that he was un-droppable, which shouldn't have been the case. A midfield three of Skuse, Hyam and Douglas (all decent enough individually) will take a long time to erase from the memory.
