The next two even if we lose both will be quite good indicators. If we keep the xg difference down I'll start believing . After the first 10 we'll kind of know where we are. even if the points isn't quite where it should be.

It far too soon in the season for these stats to give any real insight, but it will be using the various stats from the games to-date (one!) to compare teams for every future fixture, and generate a probability for every result. |  | | |

It's calculated using something called a Monte Carlo simulation and I think it's based upon something called an " Elo rating system " which was first introduced to rank chess players quite a few decades ago, and still used today for various sports. I use Opts Stats a reasonable amount, but I don't take too much notice of their supercomputer predictions. Last season according to that, the Championship would be won by Sheff U! |  | | |

Burley kept selecting the same team on a Sunday after the Thursday european game and we scored 1 point out of 24 if i remember correctly from those Sunday games. I don't think clubs would do that nowadays. |  |

I haven't got a supercomputer, but just by what I've seen from watching the Match of the Days so far, I'd forgotten how fast attacking the top teams in the Premier League are.
So, unfortunately I think we'll still get a few thrashings by the top teams with their players worth 80m each, but hopefully less times than 2 years ago with a more defensively prepared team there will be better damage limitation going on.
Then thinking back again to 2 years ago, against mid & lower ranking clubs the games we narrowly lost at the death, I think this team can hang on for the draws better. And the level-matched games we can sneak late wins with our finishers more frequently, like the Sunderland match. [Post edited 25 Aug 11:04]
