| Sell on clause on delap 18:26 - Aug 25 with 2296 views | BlueB0y | Delap going for 45m to Forrest, rumoured when we sold him it was a 20% sell on. Is this based on profit or the total transfer value? | | | | |

| Sell on clause on delap on 18:30 - Aug 25 with 2187 views | positivity | if we have a sell-on, it'll surely be based on profit. don't think i've ever seen a deal based on total sale value, wouldn't make any financial sense, happy to be shown examples to the contrary! | |

Probably only ever been done for free transfers if a player is allowed to leave early.

although if it's a free, then it's still a percentage of the profit!

| Sell on clause on delap on 18:48 - Aug 25 with 1856 views | ringwoodblue | I think this is a good move for Delap. Chelsea is a bonkers team and as they proved last night, they have a wealth of forward options. He will get better opportunities at Forest. Also means that Delap won’t be returning to Town which I honestly think would’ve been a mistake. | |

| Sell on clause on delap on 18:52 - Aug 25 with 1755 views | BloomBlue | Profit only, so based on rumour, that's £15m profit, 20% sell-on equals £3m. Plus knowing Chelsea's negotiating skills that's probably paid over 6 years, which means £500k per year. | | | |
| Sell on clause on delap on 18:53 - Aug 25 with 1719 views | PioneerBlue | Lets say 15-20% of £15-20m = ~£2.25m - £4m range. If under the circumstances we were able to negotiate a higher percentage sell on we did very well. | |

£15m in 1996 money is today worth just over £31m, due to inflation. Football value has outperformed inflation, and I am sure that rise cannot continue at the same level. It will probably pop as soon as we need to sell a few players to cover the debts of building two new stands....

Taking inflation into account £31 mil for Alan shearer or £45 for Liam Delap? I know which i would rather have
| Sell on clause on delap on 19:12 - Aug 25 with 1383 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Does anyone know for certain that we have a sell-on clause at all? When we signed Delap from MCFC, he had lots of suitors, and his agent insisted on a release clause of £30M. Which was more than we'd paid for him, hence would justify Ashton's claims that "we're very, very well protected". But (i) there would be a % sell-on to MCFC of any profit we made (and that applies equally to any further profit we get from our sell-on) and (ii) we believe there were loads of clubs willing to pay the £30M release clause. Which means it was up to Delap to choose which club to join. In other words, ITFC had no say in it - so how could we possibly insert a sell-on clause? We literally had no say in the matter once the release clause was met. I'd love to be wrong on this, but I just can't see how we could have inserted a sell-on clause, and even if we did, we'd have to pay a % of it to City. [Post edited 25 Aug 19:12]

The only way we would have a sell on clause is if it was included in Delaps initial contract I may be completely making this up but i'm sure Phil has said there is a clause before, but i've never seen it reported as fact anywhere.

Neither club went into that level of detail, TWTD and Sky reported a sell on clause at the time. Yes, I did think about City having a chunk of anything additional we make. https://www.twtd.co.uk/amp/new

Fee looking like it will be £50m, so if we have a 20% sell on clause, we would receive £3.2m (20% of the £20m profit, minus 20% of that (£800k) going to Man City)

3 million is not to be sniffed at. It can be put into community development, if we need to find ways to spend it.
