| €27.5m for Palacios! on 21:02 - Aug 25 by nshearman1 | Exactly. I'll get shot down for this but I'm not excited about getting in a guy who clearly didn't want to come in the first place. O'Neil has done well to keep the unity in the dressing room while steadily dismantling the previous team. but Palacios could be the kind of personality to really disrupt things if and when things don't go well. And in those circumstances O'Neil has a proven track record in not handling big egos well (Cunha). |

| €27.5m for Palacios! on 21:42 - Aug 25 by balcombeblue | These comments about players “not wanting to play for us”, all very 1970s They are professionals and it’s a job. Simple as that. It’s a job they do very well. Especially in the case of a World Cup winner |
Indeed! Trying to think how to put this politely but pretty hard to word it in a way comes across without being rather blunt. Some of TWTD needs to log off and just talk this kind of nonsense down the local. I legit can’t believe what I read on here sometimes. A World Cup and Bundesliga title winner that was MOTD at the at the Emirates in the CL tie a mere 6 months ago, didn’t have us top of his list this summer?! What a shocker. Just be incredibly excited he has been persuaded to come here FFS. [Post edited 26 Aug 5:01]

You are missing the point, we just need to stay up this season. This player is going to help make this happen. You, the manager, team do not have to be his mate, he is here to do a job and he is a damn fine footballer.

I've no doubt that he's a fairly high profile player, just think it's all being a bit overblown with research after the link. He didn't get many minutes in the last world cup with Argentina giving de Paul and Mac Allister most minutes, so is possibly on a downward trajectory. I hope not and his highlights look decent but all I keep seeing are 'world cup winner'. And my football knowledge is fine thanks. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I mean Alexis is understandable. De Paul is one of Scalonis trusted guys and has great chemistry with Messi.

| €27.5m for Palacios! on 11:32 - Aug 26 with 608 views | pointofblue | Maybe Palacios' signing just isn't seen as big as we think. Sky made a cursory mention of it last night and the BBC haven't said anything at all - they're more interested in the likes of Fernandez's will he/won't he saga, Delap and Spurs' signings. If clubs are taking the same attitude maybe that's why the interest isn't there. | |

Scaloni has been in place since 2018. So was the manager when Palacios was previously a regular.

He isn't close to a Xhaka in terms of celebrity - Swiss talisman, however many hundred games for Arsenal, etc. - but hopefully he proves to be where it counts. From a recent Town perspective it is pretty huge! Just on balance your average WC watcher won't have seen his appearance against Jordan at x in the morning. Argentina's central midfield during the summer was Enzo, Alexis and Paredes, with De Paul playing out of position to fit him in the XI too. For Leverkusen, he hasn't been a permanent fixture ever really from what I can tell. Reportedly excellent when they won the title but only 21 starts, injury-hampered I'm sure. And that was his most league starts in a season to date; his third-most is 12. I'm sure we all hope for many more league starts than 12 this campaign, which could make €27.5m look like a steal in today's market.

It probably isn't outside of Ipswich, but then it's not likely to be. 1) Its us and not a 'big club' buying him, so naturally it'll get less coverage. 2) He's never played in the premier league before, so naturally wont be as familiar to most. 3) While he's got a World Cup winners medal, he played a combined 50 odd minutes in the 2022 WC, and made 1 start in the last one against Jordan. He's not Messi. Don't get me wrong, a real coup for us and one who could elevate our CM from low end to middling PL alongside Lukic, especially with an on song Enciso in the 10. I asked my German mate who loves Bundesliga and he really rates him, said he's technically class and a very solid PL signing. I'm interested to see him in action, hopefully he stays fit as that's certainly a question mark.
