Kept it simple and tidy with a great range of passes. Lovely pass up to Akpom for the 1st goal and great pressing late on to the win the ball for the 3rd.

Also very nice to see a few minutes of Compton playing alongside him, a nice moment for the academy!

What was it about his game you enjoyed so much? We were clearly battling to keep him with us for years based on these views...

What was it about his game that you disliked? All you are referring to is the league position of the club. As many have stated the rest of the team were shite. Did you watch any games in that time?

I think not rating Skuse is a good litmus test to discover if someone actually understands football or not. In this case, you've failed with flying colours

To be fair I always used to use that back ok the day as to whether posters were people who actually watch and have played the game or just dip in now and again and have zero clue.

'A cultured interceptor'.

I've heard it all.

A top championship midfielder, who rarely in his entire career finished in the top half of the championship.

Right, now listen, you're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.

Cole Skuse finished in the top half of the Championship in the MAJORITY of the seasons he spent in the Championship. Seven times in fact. Why are you making up nonsense? Do you always make up your own facts and then derive your opinions from them?

Bizarre.

He finished in the top half in 3 of his 6 Bristol City seasons.
He finished in the top half in 4 of his 6 Ipswich Town seasons.

He never ever finished 15th with Ipswich, as you suggest.

Go and kick off somewhere else.

He’s very good and playing 4 one-twos with centre backs in a row, I’ll give him that.

Cam or Skuse or both. As much as I disagree that did make me chuckle.

Russell Martin would actually cry tears of obnoxious joy to have Cole Skuse to be fair. "Fantastic bravery on the ball and he takes all the learning I give him and he passes it loads for me"

Never let a team that was consistently 15th in the championship down?

Finished 9th, 7th and 6th btw. With one of the lowest budget's in the league around this time.

Your life must half be sad if you can get this irate about Cole Skuse lol.

Cole is currently Director of Football at my old school St Josephs and manager of Bury Town. Decent footballer and capable guy.

It would be great if the lad could kick on fully but the club keeps raising the bar for his entry level in the squad due to the ups and downs and ups! He has done remarkably well getting to where he has basically through being a training player with other elite players beside the short loan.

I dont know (but soon we will) if he will retain a squad place or will be off on loan once more but loans havent always been best recently for our player development then their integration back to the squad.

The Irony of this post is the real tragedy.

It's not me, though unrated him highly. You only have to speak to every coach and player he has played is to understand his value.

Excellent range of passing. Reads the game brilliant. Looks after the ball brilliant and keeps teams ticking over really well. Never his game to bomb on and get goals and assists. He was a cultured interceptor and and marshall in the middle. Not blood and thunder like Morsy. More like a Grimes at Cov. Skuse in a top champ team can run things really effectively.

Multiple of his managers have commented he could play I'm the top flight. Now that I'm not sure on how successfully he would be. But he was a top champ midfielder.

It’s funny how we all see things differently and after all, one of the things that makes football fun is different opinions.

For me I’m largely with Donnie on this one. I didn’t rate him at the time (and I saw most of his home games and a few away) and I don’t now.

So what did he offer? Skuse was a good reader of the game and excellent at intercepting when playing that sweeper role. His control was ok too. Top bloke and always comes across well in interviews.

However, I thought him weak in the tackle and felt he bottled the odd challenge too (memory failure?). For me his passing mediocre on a good day. He had little pace and couldn’t score in a brothel. If he cantered out from defence with the ball, there was rarely an end product. Nothing special in the air either.

Ok, he played in a team where a midfield was a token effort. With ‘is he still alive’ Douglas mouldering somewhere on the pitch and Hyam running around to little effect most of the time, how could it be anything else? But sorry, I never saw much in him at the time and I don’t now.

I’d say his level was lower end Championship. Managers may have commented at the time that he could play top flight, but to my knowledge none ever came in for him and he never did.

He’s one of those players that generates conflicting views and that’s mine.

The main things for me, how weak in the challenge he was, forever backing out of 50/50s, his lack of mobility and athleticism and his range of passing, which beyond a 5 yard sideways/backwards one was non existent.

And the moment you called him out for it, he went silent and didn't reply - brilliant.

As you say, utterly bizarre post. By his logic, McGoldrick wasn't Prem quality either because of our league position. Which he factually was.

Same can be said for other players for us in poor teams who went on to have very good Prem careers - Delaney, McAuley, Fraser etc.

Skuse was not a world-beater but was extremely effective at what he did, was quicker than people thought, had an incredible reading of the game, and was usually a 7/10 every week.

By that point I was simply repeating myself to different people. What was the point on carrying it on? Brilliant.

Zero transfer interest in him for how many years?

We shall agree to disagree. For me, Championship level say 6 out of 10. There’s no way he could have played in the Premier League in my opinion.

Tbh, I did feel the same about Delaney but thought McAuley maybe a squad player. What do I know? Not a lot. McGoldrick was an interesting one. By far our best player during that period. Worth the entrance money alone which was fortunate given most of the rest weren’t.

The only doubts I had about him at the top level were fitness and a total lack of pace. The former - I’m not sure our ‘medical facilities’ helped or the way he was played by Mick. The lack of pace was compensated by his ability.

I’m pleased DM got to play at PL level and that he’s enjoyed such a long career. 126 appearances, 45 goals in six seasons. That’s good going given the team/club’s limitations.
