He's a good keeper, trouble is as a keeper if you make a mistake or two before the fans have seen the best of you and they're on your back it's then a horrible position to be.
As a keeper, as soon as your start receiving ironic cheers for catching the ball or making a simple save, it's done, there is no return.
I hope our fanbase don't do the same with Scherpen and give him a chance to before writing him off as clearly many have already. Its not been an easy start for him and he could have definitely done better with some of the goals but judge him after 10-15 games. |  |

I don't buy this Muric was poor bc of the fans narrative. Part and parcel of being a pro sportsman is being psychologically resilient. Justified or not, you will receive criticism. Ability to play well despite either idiots or warranted heckles is a mark of someone who can cope at the top level.
It could be that Muric was just a bit of a playboy dickhead in those days and knuckled down following his move to Italy. He was embroiled in a nightclub partying incident while away on Kosovo duty while with us. Was constantly risk-taking. Passing to strikers and coming kamikazee out of his box.
We aren't a goalkeeping charity. Muric was statistically the worst keeper in the Prem that season. Most errors leading to a goal in 2024/5 despite only playing half a season is quite an achievement: https://www.footballcritic.com By the time we finally dropped him (just before xmas) we were second bottom and had one foot in the Championship grave. True, after switching to much superior Palmer, we as a team were no better, but not due to GK failings.
This follows our 2001 record signing, Matteo Sereni being a similar flop in our prior Prem spell. We paid no higher transfer fee for 23 years until we signed Hutchinson in 2024. I think we've a trend when promoted of buying moon-shot, project super-keepers. What we really need at this level is a steady pair of hands, capable of consistently being 7/10. Sereni kept very well in the first half of the season, especially as Town were struggling. Then he had a shocker at Charlton on new year's day, clearly not fancying the pitch, took a rest from the Cup game at Dagenham, briefly lost his place to Andy Marshall & was never the same again. |  |
