| 10 quick thoughts on Town 2-4 Arsenal - God I dislike their fans 23:22 - Sep 15 with 1905 views | unstableblue | 1) the first goal is an absolute clusterf@ck from first McAteer, then Furlong, then Kipre.. yes some nice footwork from Dowman. But just not good enough at this level from all three. 2) the second goal is even worse defending, comical from all involved perhaps Walton the worst offender. A bit like Liverpool, at this level the very minimum you do is remove all basic errors around the box. But these are not first team defenders, they are not sharp and Arsenal are lethal. 3) Ouatarra is a very good signing, incredibly impressed yet again. This guy has a seriously high ceiling. Great investment. Really liked how he was geeing up his fellow defender after conceding the second. And a superb run and cross to Fleming who lays it back beautifully for Mehemti who fluffs a great chance. 4) having gone 2-0 down we created loads of attacking zone moves and surges on their box. But Mehmeti and Jaden had zero conviction just to get the shot away. 5) yes Mehmeti scored but for me he didn’t do enough to show the desire and quality to fight for a place, or even a bench place, and I’d rather have seen Egeli start in the 10 6) Florentino was a mixed bag, he purred when he came on at palace, but struggled a bit tonight. Some good moments. However he and Nunez did keep Bruno relatively quiet. 7) greaves was playing on the edge a bit, but I do think he’s improving and is finding the level. Think he may have fouled Gyorkores for a penalty, but no VaR 8) Flemming was in total beast mode, and we actually went long to him often, he’s able to bully people to get to balls, but then he’s got quite a refined touch. I do think he’s Emerson’s understudy currently - but what a weapon to have in reserve. And Akpom did well when he came on and scored. 9) arsenal’s b team beat Ipswich’s b team, because they in part wanted it more in the first 20mins - but also their drop down in quality was nothing like ours. When Clarke came on we looked a different team, he beat some people early on, and then Arsenal gave him space. He was excellent. Brilliant run to set up our first goal. And he should start at the Hill Dickinson. Davis also purred when introduced. And Lukic looked a step above in his brief cameo. Town weren’t terrible tonight, the understudies got some minutes, and I think players like furlong, McAteer showed they can do a job if called upon (well clangers aside) 10) Arsenal fans are annoying aren’t they?! Firstly they were all over the home ends. And their chants are insipid. One mouthy gooner got punched after the game behind the north stand. They just feel a bit plastic. Let’s move on, take some minor positives, and really give everything on Saturday. Will be tough but a result would be really positive to round out the start to the season. | |

Just wish we would nail down a position for him And yes, Arse fans are the most obnoxious around in the Prem - by a distance.

Agree with pretty much all of that I would love to know where GON sees Outtara's position. He looks an athlete. You missed Jack Clarke, he simply must start on Saturday.

As per my original musings agree Jack Clarke looks Prem level, and must start at Hill Dickinson. He looks better than Grealish! More mobile. I think Ouatarra has a number of positions, and therefore he makes a great utility player. Obviously he is the back up full back. And I think is ahead of furlong even for the right back berth if OShea moves to the centre of gets a knock. I wonder if he could play the Fatawu role at the Etihad? Make us more solid?

I actually thought mehmeti did well, watched him closely, he was busy and trying, as for Jaden? no sure where his head was last night but he needs to start realising he aint the golden boy in this squad and he needs to take a look at jack Clarke performances of late. Flemming was very good, busy, aggressive and has a decent touch. Nunez looks like he is still worrying about his slip and man u. ( was poor again) Walton isnt our no1

Whilst I think Mehmeti had some good moments and finished from Clarke well. For me he got in to threatening positions multiple times in that first half and failed to get the shot away or make the killer pass. It was frustrating. I’d like to see him do better from the brilliant Flemming knock back.

I didn't know much about him, but what little I've seen since we got him has impressed me. Flemming playing well didn't surprise me. He'll be a good signing for us. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| 10 quick thoughts on Town 2-4 Arsenal - God I dislike their fans on 15:36 - Sep 16 with 401 views | _CliveBaker_ | Not sure there's any evidence they wanted it more. We don't lack heart or desire, I think that's a bit of a lazy criticism. I thought we showed courage to keep going tbh, and save a bit of face with the 2 late goals by way of the scoreline. We were just well beaten by a side packed with top international players from top nations. Agree with the assessment of the performances and the Arsenal supporters though. Player wise it was quite predictable. We've got a squad of 2 halves really, 10 - 15 who while not Arsenal level are probably premier league quality, and 10 - 15 who probably aren't. Walton, Kipre, Mehmeti, Akpom, Furlong, Nunez, McAteer, Egeli. All can do a job, but there's a big difference between slotting 1 into a side vs. a whole team largely made up of them. Bit like the Bill Shankly quote about Scottish players, "if you’ve got three Scots in your team, you’ve got a chance of winning something. Any more and you’ve got trouble.” | | | |

Our summer recruitment was exceptional but fell a bit short in CB and RB positions. Needed an upgrade on Kipre and Furlong who should’ve gone out on loan or be sold. Hoping this will be addressed in Jan.

If we’re on the right track for PPG by January window (man a point or three at Everton would be a massive step in that direction ahead of the introduction break) - the owners might free some further funding to get us over the line in the form of two more quality defenders Having said that we have maxed out our financial limits under PSR (or whatever it’s called!)
