Look it's obviously funny because it's that lot... but I can't say it sits well with me. I despise this sort of dismissive attitude towards the rest of football from the "top" PL sides and honestly find it quite damaging. I get it is expensive following football but we are supposed to feel bad now because Man City fans "have" to watch their team at Wembley and the Champions League? Give over.

I thought part of the reason why they are called 'plastic' fans was a reference to credit cards.
Ie. They are only here for success and are happy to spend crazy money to watch games but they dont turn up when the teams in League 1 and games cost you a fiver.
By Cundy's argument they are exactly that: plastic fans. They're better than you because they spend money and turn up to see big name football not support their team the whole time including games against lower tier English sides.
The fact he's actively proud of that and no-one challenges him is quite disgusting tbh. I don't care that it's Norwich, he's saying 99% of English football doesn't matter because they don't have money. That's not an elite attitude, it's an elitist one. Sounds a right p**t to me |
That’s not my understanding of plastic fans.
My understanding is that they chose to support because they are successful. Not because said they come from that location or have a long standing family attachment. Ie not a ‘real’ fan.

Everyone is different levels of something, even those born in Ipswich, live there and work leave the county at some point. At that point are they less Suffolk than the person who hasn't left by a justification of a 1 day or even a few hours. They are now a few hours more London and a few hours less Suffolk.
These games are important to the City youth players, their important to developing Championship players who may reach the prem. It's not an inconvenience it's a lifeline to our footballing ecosystem. I don’t like how Cundy approached the argument ie being dismissive of non top six clubs and/or anyone below prem level. My agreement was the point of ‘plastic’ and a nobbish fan (delightfully a Norwich fan in this occasion) being told to button it just because they didn’t sing.
As much as I also dislike Man Utd my formative year was in the 90s ie my late teens and twenties. at that time they had beckham, the Neville’s, scholes etc. doubt we’ll ever have such a successful team again with so many home grown players and of course most played for England too.
I’d love Ipswich to at least aspire to that.

Its a fair question NHS, so I went and checked. CR was 74% full against Mk dons a few weeks ago, while man city was 52% full against us. Baring in mind we're struggling in the championship and they're one of the best teams in Europe, i think we come out of comparison well, tbh. [Post edited 19 Sep 13:17]
