I thought this would have created more reminscing, especially with the international break. Its longer ago now than it was between our UEFA cup win and the game back then, I guess people's memories fade with time. Maybe it was the smaller number of fans who went to Moscow, every man and their dog claims to have gone to Milan or Helsingborg

Those were the days...

Thanks for posting as I was there in Moscow. Hard to believe it was 25 years ago today! The friend I went with had business connections in Eastern Europe and arranged a colleague to purchase tickets (in with the locals, opposite stand to the Town fans) and dine us in a top fancy restaurant in the city. Also, a very late night/morning out after the game which included a walk across the Red Square back to the hotel around 5 am!
Missed out on the Helsingborg trip but made the Milan one which I think was my last ever Town away game before crossing the 'pond'!
Happy memories indeed.

How many fans did we take?

The stadium looks very intimidating with all those Russian rozzers.

Was there with 6 others had a great time so many stories but just to give a feel for it
Town fans laid out a load of Town/England flags on Red Square, KGB got involved Sheepy sorted it out with badges and scarfs giving out
Like to think to this day son of a KGB officer supports Town
About 1000 there quite a few chucked out at half time for being pissed put in a cage which they forgot to lock
Russians were great, taught them anti scum songs
Nearly got runover by motorcade coming out of the Kremlin but that's another story and thank god for McDonald's, Russian food is crap.
Also got delayed about 12 hours coming back but set up our own bar with local girls going over to supermarket to keep us in vodka, in danger of visas running out, that's another story to

It was intimidating but you just did as you were told cos you had no choice, welcome to Russia.

Most of us there were on the official ITFC trip, it was the only way to get visa's sorted quickly. Think we got in early evening on the Wednesday, had a look round the city next day, match Thursday evening, then back on the plane before breakfast next day.

Match and empty stadium was forgettable but the vodka was worth the trip alone. No sleeping just drinking vodka for 2 days straight.

I think there were just over 1000 town fans there, maybe 1400? But it was all a bit of a haze, brilliant.

We sorted our visas out via the Russia House in London
Travelled independently and bought our match ticket there, which were a tenth of what Town were charging for a ticket
We were hovering around outside the ground when we were approached by this young Russian lad in a Town shirt said it was a dream come true, he sorted our tickets for us.
He was trying to arrange a supporters game, we declined impinged on drinking time, but I believe he was successful in getting the game organised

Fantastic, one match I always regretted not attending. My dad was going to go but didn't for a reason i can't remember.

At least there are the Inter memories.

All this European football talk is getting me in the mood for next season when we play in the Europa League, imagine it.

Sorted our Visa forms in the ticket office as 9/11 was kicking off, actual time of the collapse. Moscow stank of fuel fumes, the only person taking dollars was the hat salesman on Rd Square, so we were pointed to a bank to exchange to Ruski cash, some of which I still have as no bank would change it back! Military females in full make up and high heels at the airport, like something from a 60’s Bond film! Stadium was falling apart a bit, lots of puddles and wires/cables hanging loose under the stand as we were directed to a toilet. But I loved seeing where Coe/Ovett had duelled it out in 1980! Great experience, I’ll never go back!

I think it's unlikely any of us will go back, at least for many, many years.
I have only been to Russia once, to Moscow to write about a huge new art gallery, about 2 months before they invaded Ukraine. One day I would love to visit St Petersburg, but I doubt that will happen now...

As for someone's comment on Russian food - there is some great cuisine in russia, it's a huge place. A bit late for those of you who went to the Torpedo Moscow game (I only did Milan that adventure) you should've hunted out a Georgian restaurant, wonderful food.

Had tickets but didn’t get there. A few hours before we were due to head to Portman Road to catch coach to go to Stanstead had a phone call from Travel Company we have just noticed there is no visa for your 11 year old . You can go without him. Oh no we can’t.

Older son, Clax, worked for the club, was already in Moscow, he came home with our passports.

I did send an email to Moscow Torpedo and asked it be handed to Sheepy, being the type of guy he is he phoned and spoke to my wife, I was still at work. We had hospitality at the next home game and son was presented with away shirt on the pitch. The club made an immediate refund. Always wondered if they were refunded by the Travel Company.

We also were invited to Stansted to see the team arrive on their return from Moscow, Kieran was interviewed on local TV and presented with a Russian hat. When interviewed he said he felt sorry for Mum & Dad as they wouldn’t get another chance to see Town in Moscow but he was sure he would.

Town fans always live in hope but you never know it might happen one day, COYB

We were actually having a ok pizza in a restaurant, which is where we found out about our currency issue, the very nice, English speaking waitress was the one who pointed us too a bank, which we would never have known from the outside, where a very brusk, older Russian lady tapped on the counter to tell us to hand over $, whereupon she shoved some Reubels back. I have no idea if she observed the exchange rate!
The whole plane home seemed to develop a sneezing fits, only after did we put two and two together. These bloody hats! The plane was full of fur of unknown origin!

It's still worth reminding Norwich that Ipswich is still the only East Anglian club to play in Europe this century (and twice) and the likes of Matt Holland has played more European football for Ipswich than Norwich as a club has in its whole history.

We don't need to list any of that as a honour though.
