ManC are thought to be appealing on the basis that the extra sponsorship money was paid by the Abu Dhabi government, not the club's owners. If there were no formal declared contracts behind that - as one assumes there would need to be, for the Prem's financial rules - I don't understand how that makes it any better for them.

"Oh, we had all this extra sponsorship we didn't tell you about and which wasn't checked to be at realistic commercial levels." doesn't sound like a brilliant defence.

One suspects this is likely to get 'political' now

I fully expect Man City to let off in the end

Don't see it being any different if it becomes political, it's too bad of a look and the momentum behind public sentiment is too high. As shown by the speed of Burnham's backtracking from his tone deaf statement.

Interesting that Citeh are saying the the judgement was wrong on “points of law”.
The panel doesn’t deal with points of law, but with the Premier League rules that Man City signed up to.

Of course City know this, but the language suggests that they will end up taking this to the high court, likely under anti-competition legislation. If they win, it could set a precedent on owner funding that will effectively end SCR

They also keep saying it's the premier league's panel. They're trying to dress it up and frame it in whichever way is less damaging to their image at this point.

They have been saying for years that they have irrefutable evidence absolving them of any wrong doing, which has still yet to be seen.

Now they are threatening Burnham and the UK, saying they will pull investment out of UK.

This is why being owned by Nation States is ridiculous.

Exactly. If the punishment doesn’t match the crime at the end of the process then we might as well pack it all in.

Southampton were not relegated for spying, they got kicked out of play offs and given -4 point deduction for this season.
Man City should stay in premier league and be made to play all games this season with -114 ponts deduction. They should be banned from purchasing new players for next 5 windows. They must be forced to pay all fees to former clubs of purchased players when due. It is important that the punishment does not negatively effect other teams.
This in my opinion is the minimum punishment. Any less than this and the premier league is dead and clubs like Man City are taking the piss.

Yeah, sorry re “relegation”, brain fart moment with them now being a division lower!

Don’t think you can ban them from buying new players for 5 windows, given that the majority of their senior players will probably want transfers if they’re not going to be playing CL or EPL football.

When he finishes doing somersaults, my bet is that Burnham caves in to the Arabs as will the Premier League. From an economic point of view I don’t think there’s any choice. Right and wrong doesn’t come into it, like so many things in life.

From an economic football point of view it was obvious what the Premier League was for even back in 1992 and sport, competition, fairness were well down the list. In making £billions it’s been hugely successful. Nobody will dare tear that up and that’s before you get to wider economic impact.

They’ll get a nominal points deduction and a big fine. When people tire of it, there will be a successful appeal and a smaller club will get targeted.

As has been suggested, football is eating itself.
