| Kemi Badenoch is supposedly impressing some people 16:41 - Oct 6 with 4653 views | Dubtractor | But she is absolutely hopeless when put under any scrutiny. These are pretty soft questions from a tory friendly journalist about their big announcement at the conference. "I'm not a defence expert."
Even by Kemi Badenoch's lamentable standards, this is agonising. Just give thanks she will never, ever be Prime Minister. đ

| Kemi Badenoch is supposedly impressing some people on 09:21 - Oct 9 by Mullet | Itâs quite the pivot from her incessant culture wars nonsense all of 5 mins ago isnât it? Not sure Barnes is the best example either is he? Wasnât he pelted with bananas and called a Jamaican back in the 80s? Either way I think the arrogance of them pretending to be the opposition still might work to split the right a bit more. |
The other thing I noticed is that she made the focus about England and talked about "our England team" but couldn't bring herself to say "I am English" despite being born in this country, given the argument of people like Braverman that "non-indigenous" people can't be English only British. It's so stupid. An utter waste of time that achieves nothing. Sadly the media love playing these games. See also "what is a woman?"

| Kemi Badenoch is supposedly impressing some people on 17:45 - Oct 9 with 344 views | DJR | Something I thought I'd never say. I agree with Robert Jenrick. Jenrick pointed out that the main policy announcements at the Tory conference favoured the very rich. He explained: "People earning a hundred and fifty grand a year will get free childcare. People in ÂŁ2m houses will get a council tax cut. And if the people who pass away in that mansion have ÂŁ1m more in the bank, theyâll pay nothing whatsoever. Kensington Kemi knows who her people are. Millionaires, not Mansfield." Jenrick said the main Tory announcement, exempting homes from inheritance tax, would âonly benefit one person in 245 in the east Midlands, one in 472 in the north-east, almost nobody outside of London and the south-eastâ. He went on: "Iâll just come out and say it. The party of Disraeli is dead. He said âThe Tory party, unless it is a national party, is nothing.â Well theyâre not even pretending to be a national party now. Whatâs left is nothing more than a metropolitan pressure group for the wealthiest. They have simply given up on the millions of people that have the misfortune of having to work for a living âŚ. And, who is paying for Badenochâs bung to Belgravia? Working families. The Tories decided not to cut the jobs tax [Labourâs rise in employer national insurance], crippling businesses and costing jobs. She decided not to unfreeze the income tax threshold, which is punishing more and more working people. She wonât cut taxes on the self-employed. Or make life easier for tradesmen. In real terms, under her plan, the average worker would pay ÂŁ265 more than they did under Rachel Reeves. And sheâs taking that 265 quid and giving it to her mates in their central London mansions." I know it's a bit like the kettle calling the pot black but her announcements suggest she has given up on the Red Wall. [Post edited 9 Oct 17:47]

That's a decent read, and reflects my views. She has been getting a very favourable press, but any other leader delivering the results she has would be getting hammered.

I suppose that the members see that two years from a general election, even with a Burnham bounce and Reform apparently killing off the Tories, polls like this are showing they are still in the fight.

That gets to the heart of the delusion around her. And it is just that: a delusion. The Tories suck at the moment and sheâs been unable to change that. You just wonât hear that in the still largely Tory-favourable press. Mind you, I heard she laid into Reform in her speech this week and criticised their ethno-nationalist approach (perfectly summed up by the ridiculous London born and bred Braverman whoâs adamant she canât be English). So credit to her for that. So sheâs refused to go on Goodallâs LBC show by the sounds of it. I wonder if she could be persuaded to go on Blue Monday. The âblueâ part might confuse her enough for her to accept a cheeky invitation

Pressing her on her favourite cheese, Pablo or Shefki, battenburg - yes or no, might seal her fate.
