Slightly off topic, but have you signed up the scheme to house asylum seeking families/individuals?
If this sort of thing is happening they'll need the support of the British people to home them.

edit... link for you for reference www.refugeesathome.org

edit edit - 3 downvotes for offering a suggesting/link to help those that are in need. wow

Well that's your flag hoisted then. The story in the OP must give you a warm, fuzzy glow inside.

You've downvoted a post that is telling you and others how to offer your support to help these people.
then you resort to this sort of reply. Weird.

I'm sure that nice house out Sweffling way would happily accommodate a few of those in need, no?

I would have thought you'd already offered you house out, if you feel as strongly as you appear to, maybe i have read this situation incorrectly.

There's been a spate of this where I live, in Salford. People attacking HMOs that supposedly house asylum seekers in a vigilante-type style. A friend of mine works for the council and said that everyone displaced by these attacks has to then be housed in a hotel, at exorbitant cost to the council/tax payer - or they remain on the street and the authorities lose track of them. Whole thing is just so self-defeating and beyond grim.

This really isn't the gotcha argument you think it is. Do you realise that the clips of Stone Island clad C-Units asking this question at Anti-Racism demonstrations are heavily edited and selective in the responses they broadcast?

Most people aren't lucky enough to have the facilities to accommodate additional people in their homes. The state however has the capacity to provide temporary accommodation to those seeking asylum. The ability to provide this however is made considerably more difficult by the actions of racist thugs and the ignorant fools that they prey upon.

My spare sleeping spaces are full of homeless veterans ar the moment my cockchaffer friend. Be sure to wash your flag now and then, nobody likes a crusty one.

No thoughts on burning potential refuges for women and children. At least you stuck your head up though!

What "gotcha argument"?

As far as I can see one person here has offered the link to sign up to, and another has got defensive.

I fully agree, many people cant offer a room, but to counter that there will be many others that live in 3/4/5 bedrooms houses, kids away at uni/have moved out, who do feel very strongly about helping refugees, that aren't offering the support. I find that rather hypercritical if I'm honest. If you have the means to do so, and chose not to... why?

sorry, my first thought was to think how people could step in to help if there is a short fall in housing due to criminal damage.

anyway, my thoughts are its an awful thing to do. these people carrying out such crimes need locking up for a long time

Do you use that same line of thought to people who say that army veterans and British homeless people should be housed first?

You know the old Cold War era Doomsday Clock* - currently at 85 seconds to midnight, closest it's ever been - well, I think there's probably a Nazi Clock equivalent with the 'midnight' point set at 1939. Where we are now, I don't know, probably mid to late 1930s in parts of mainland Europe, the US, and other places (maybe getting close to Kristallnacht o'clock) but even here in good old historically tolerant Blighty, it feels like we're well past Night of the Long Knives o'clock.

Makes you think, doesn't it.

Russia, China, the United States, and other major countries have become increasingly aggressive, adversarial, and nationalistic. Hard-won global understandings are collapsing, accelerating a winner-takes-all great power competition and undermining the international cooperation critical to reducing existential risks. Far too many leaders have grown complacent and indifferent, in many cases adopting rhetoric and policies that accelerate rather than mitigate those risks. Because of this failure of leadership, the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board sets the Doomsday Clock at 85 seconds to midnight, the closest it has ever been to catastrophe.

Climate Change, life sciences (bio, chiral 'mirror life' engineering, etc.) and AI in general addressed more in the full statement: https://thebulletin.org/doomsd (full Jan 27th 2026 statement)

Hi Matt,

Personally, I'd like to think the country could offer those that laid lives on the line to defend it a bed to sleep in.
That said, if someone was that passionate about rough sleeping vets and they had the capacity to do so, they could/should offer a room to them, be rather hypercritical to have a completely differing view point wouldn't it.

No one is living in that accommodation currently. Someone's set fire to it just in case it ends up housing 26 mothers and babies.

I suppose it's better to do it while it's empty rather when those people have moved in.

A member of my family has a business and has given the accommodation to refugee’s.
The maintenance/servicing etc.. is still carried out by the family business, and people are paid as normal to do that. So forgoing profit. And that has been happening for about 5 years now.
Village location, no protests.

A single space is kept clear for other family members, if they need it.

What have you done?

I’ve done nothing, and don’t plan to.

I simply posted a potential solution for those on this thread that (I thought) actively wanted to support asylum seekers.

Congrats to your family member for doing what he/she is. When people are passionate and follow that up with action it must be commended.

Maybe the people on this thread do actively help.

Some may give to charities, some may vote for parties that are not anti-immigration, some may advocate for refugees and try to change peoples minds.

An analogy. Some people don’t play on the wing for a premiership club, have never played on the wing at all, or never had to defend against such a winger.
Many could join a local football club and try and play on the wing.Or even get coaching badges, and train people to play on the wing, in order that should the opportunity arise, the could dive advise and help a premiership winger.

Most don’t.

They are not hypocrites…..Misinformed, maybe.

Not a perfect analogy, but kinda works on this forum.

There is already a system in place to support asylum seekers. It's just a shame that its work is being constantly disrupted by violent bigots.
