Hands up, who was a fan of the Poll Tax? 22:32 - Jun 7 with 13287 views | Dolly2.0 | Jeremy Corbyn opposed it and nearly went to jail for not paying it. Another reason to vote for him tomorrow.

Feck off. Who do you think you are ordering me to reply in 2 minutes? Go feck yourself. You are a proven liar and I'm still waiting for your apology. What *I* call the Poll Tax? Yeah, nobody else called it that. My OP is very simple. You were clearly a fan, so put your hand up.

I thought it was preferable to the outdated rates system which was due a revaluation at the time which would have seen massive bills hitting doorsteps. Now what was the poll tax and how did it work and what do you object to about it?

To be fair, it was a bit of a stupid post as highlighted by the first response which is just as valid as yours. Plenty of valid reasons to ask people to vote labour, why did you choose that one from 30 years ago? You could have achieved a better response with real issues. SB [Post edited 7 Jun 2017 22:53]

The senior civil servant sent over to the Treasury to implement the replacement of the Poll Tax was heard to comment 'I've been given the job of sorting out the mess that f!cking stupid woman has single-handedly created.'

Of course you loved it, it was a Thatcher policy. It was universally hated and deemed unfair by everyone else, leading to huge riots, and proved part of Thatcher's downfall. If you thought it was a good thing at the time then you were at odds with a lot of angry people.

No-one forced you to read the thread, or indeed comment on it. My comment "another reason to vote Corbyn" was a little tongue-in-cheek. Maybe I should've made that clearer with a winky face after it or something.

But are you saying that it's justifiable to not pay something legally owed because you don't agree with it? So if Labour get in tomorrow and start smashing me with a stupidly high tax rate, I shouldn't pay it?

I'm not "banging on" I'm replying to Glassers. Feel free to engage with the debate, or if you don't like it walk away. But trying to shut someone down because they have an opinion - that's poor form.

I did engage, you ignored the post. There is no debate to be had here, your point is entirely irrelevant in the current time period. It's like saying nobody should vote Labour because 70 years ago they were rabid socialists. It's a meaningless debate. Carry on being angry though. SB

The point is tens of thousands refused to pay it, and indeed rioted about it. If a Labour tax policy caused the same kind of outrage and mass non-payment I'd expect there to be something wrong with that too. The people rose up - and it was abolished. Nuff said. Has there ever been any other Government policy to create such widespread condemnation and mass disobedience?

I'm not angry at all, I'm very relaxed with my feet up in my attic and sipping on a nice cold soda water with fresh lime, nursing my aching limbs from a session at the gym and a cycle ride. If anything I'm a bit sleepy. If people can bang on about Corbyn's terrorism links of 30 years ago, I think this is fair game. You don't? Oh well. EDIT: p.s. Your first post was engaging with the subject? Basically telling me to shut up and talk about something else is engaging? Not in my book, sorry. [Post edited 7 Jun 2017 23:10]

Not really no. One is a policy which he didn't like (as did many people) but affects nobody now. The other is something that could affect everyone in the country given the current climate. You know that though..... SB

In what does Corbyn standing in silence at an IRA funeral 30 years ago affect people now?
