I guess we are looking at this then 09:26 - Aug 28 with 2743 viewsWarkTheWarkITFC

So then:

Probably starting XI knowing Lambert

Holy
KVY Woolfenden Chambers Ward
Skuse Downes Bishop
Edwards Jackson Sears

The rest

Cornell
Donacien Nsiala Kenlock
Huws Dozzell Lankester Judge Nolan
Hawkins (unfit)
Wilson / Norwood (injured)

Personally I would be getting shot of Wilson, Kenlock, Judge and Nolan. Nowhere near good enough - Judge especially who just isn't what he was and has had 18 months now to show whether he is.

I have lost more faith in the fraud after what Joe has been posting today, so will go with

Holy
KVY - Nsiala - Chambers - Ward
Skuse- Judge- Downes
Edwards - Norwood - Sears

Let's not play anyone under the age of 25 as you know they might just show up the old stoges as being a bit Cr@p

I'll be extremely dissapointed if Skuse is favoured over Dozzell this season.

Also wouldn't have thought Jackson will play as a central striker. Although with Hawkins and Norwood unfit and Drinan now playing for the reserves I guess there aren't any other options. Folami maybe but there's no way Lambert trusts him.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Agree , Skuse should no longer be 1st choice , we need more energy in midfield and we have plenty of options ahead of him .

Skuse might be useful from the bench if we need to bolster defence to see out a game

Got everything crossed we don't lose Downes

Where have I said this is my first choice XI?

This is what I expect that muppet who calls himself a manager to do.

Chambers. Skuse. Jackson playing in the central role he can't play in.

Fair one, the team you expect PL to put out, not yours.

There was another XI with them both in though. I dunno, it's just a weird time, isn't it. Lost all faith in anything that's happening at Town. This photo thing is just typical.

I'm holding pout hope there is a quality explanation behind it all. There must be, surely. It can't be as black and white as the clueless one saying 'you're not involved, see ya'.

I'm flattered mate, but I'm 39 and was never really a centre back.

I agree that Skuse should be used more sparingly by the way but we don't have anyone ready to replace Chambers yet so I'd carry on playing him for now. He'll need replacing after this season though and may even end up being phased out as the season progresses.

Well I haven't seen the friendlies (just the errors) so can't comment on those. But why not consider Corrie? Everyone has said how well he has done, chuck him in with the Wolf, see how he goes. He may blossom, and we strike gold. Or he has a mare and we reconsider.

Does anyone know if Ward can play central? Maybe him with Wolf, and Kenlock left.

Your desperation to get Chambers out of the team clouds your judgement so badly - it's an area of the squad that needs improving, but until it has he's clearly in our best 2 CBs

Ward isn't a CB and Ndaba is a way off the first team picture. As things stand Chambers is one of our two best CBs so he should start.

Looks like a decent team to me, that. What would you like to see?

Personally I'd like to see Dozzell and Bishop in there. Both are attack minded and we need people looking to make things happen. I know Dozzell is a bit of a luxury, but maybe he'll come into his own given an extended run. And no-one in the squad can slot through a defence splitting ball like he can. Even one or two a game, and the rest of the time just being tidy, would do for me. Across a season those balls would be worth a fair few goals IMO.

Not that I've got anything against Huws and Judge.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Judge out for Bishop or El Miz. Lankester in for Edwards. Jackson out wide and Sears on the bench with Norwood or Hawkins playing centrally. Possibly Doz for Huws for some games.

Having watched him against Spurs, I'd say "way off" is a bit of an exaggeration. Admittedly it's only one game (or even one half of a game) but he looked assured to me, against much better opposition than we'll see in League 1.

Not one for every game, largely because of his age, but I'd be happy to have him as back up. I'd also have played Woolfy more (rather than sending him on loan to Swindon) but then it seems to have been successful, so what do I know?

I really do think the future looks bright if we can hang onto these youngsters, regardless of who's manager in the future. It's the one area I have a bit of optimism for ITFC.

Forgot about Lankester, would certainly agree with you there. Don't know what's gone wrong with Edwards; can occasionally be very good but gives the ball away too much for me.

Sears is an interesting one. Ought to be one of the better players in this league now he's fit.

It's also important to remember the context that Chambers won't be partnering Ndaba and Nsiala as he did in each of the past 3 friendlies, or playing against the likes of Ali, Son, Haller, Yarmolenko and Moura every week.

The reality is the Colchester game is far more reflective of the quality we'll be facing this season than either Spurs or West Ham.

Partner him with Woolfy and have KVY and Ward either side and against L1 opposition and it's a very different proposition. There's really no need for people to get so carried away about Chambers.

If you call twice a season 'occasionally' in Edwards being good case.

He played well in what was our last game, against Coventry, but have been trying to remember which other game he played well in.

He's probably our 6th choice centre half at this moment. I would make him more likely to not play a minute of league football this season than to do so.

Agreed. He's played a couple of halves in preseason and people start clamouring for him to start games. He's way off the first team picture at the minute. He more than anyone would benefit from going out on loan and actually getting some minutes in senior football.

You might be right. Standing back, he may well be the second best CB we have....and that in itself is not good.
