I think Evans was holding out for takeover first, then let Lambert go, Lambert obviously if he was going anyway not keen to wait and wanted the new guy in.

That could be the disagreement on immediate priorities.

Perhaps Evans had to seek approval from the US before letting PL go. Would explain Gill’s increased presence on the touch line
