Virgin Media 14:44 - Mar 27 with 1258 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Does anyone else notice the longer you are with them, the worse the Wi-Fi gets? Was amazing when we got it 2 years ago, but now its terrible, just switching back to Sky, never had any issues with them.

Virgin Media on 14:46 - Mar 27 with 1239 views | StokieBlue | Have you scanned your channels and checked you aren't using the same bands as everyone else around you? The routers you get with broadband packages are great at switching channels. As for the connection, it shouldn't just get slower and they don't usually throttle it. Had Virgin for years now and it's been superb, regularly above the advertised speed. SB

Think for us it's more the Hub. My house is concrete construction, so the signal doesn't travel especially well, and as a result have had to install a booster upstairs. But thats the weird bit, when it was installed, we didn't need the booster, now there seem to be dead spots all over the house, and dropped connections make watching iFollow a nightmare. Like I say, the dead spots have gradually gotten worse and worse.

Might not be what you want be we have a WiFi mesh network which takes care of this. There are a number of options out there, we use this one (which is Amazon): https://eero.com/ SB
Virgin Media on 14:59 - Mar 27 with 1189 views | Kieran_Knows | Been with them for 4 years now, and only ever had 1 issue with our wifi. Granted it took about 3 months to sort, but we did get £290 credit, which was handy!

Thanks for that SB, I'll have a look after the match.

This is typical of Virgin. I was really shocked at their behaviour. Fair enough you fail to retain a customer, at least deal with them well so that if said customer suffers poor service elsewhere they may return. The way they deal with people, you’d never go back.

Virgin Media on 19:52 - Mar 27 with 1027 views | KallyB | Sometimes they add this coax filter which you can remove but generally found their routers are poor. Grab a decent router and speed will be fine. We have GB here and never drops below 990mb. Streaming Ipswich in super fast speed is quality, moves quicker than our players!

Too right. We used them for years but there's no way we'd ever go back to them, their name is like a swear word in our house. And as for their virgin mobile, I think I ended up speaking to their customer services people more often than my own family in the end.

Heard about mesh networks but never given them much thought as I didn't know if they actually worked. I've just bought a house in a small village where I'm concerned about wi-fi speeds. Are these actually worth considering?

I dabble in networks and have installed a few mesh wireless networks, plus have the Google WiFi at home. I have two Google units, one sits next to the home hub which is turned to router mode. I have another unit on the hatch door between the dining room and kitchen, where a device would get about 75% signal. This boosts signal throughout the house to 100% and extends out to the garage (to update the car satnav maps and the security camera) where previously my conservatory was at 10% and the garage 0. The Google units are really easy to set up, have some nice features to controls the kids use (eg DNS porn filter, set times for internet access, ability to turn off their internet at the press of your phone from anywhere in the world) and look fairly funky. There are other mesh units, ubiquity are rated highly, but if you don't know a layer 2 network from a layer 3, look at the Google ones. I also have Virgin Media cable broadband. For technical reasons I won't bore you with if you can access their service (and don't live in Hull) they are the only people you should use, even if their customer service can be a bit patchy.
