Yes and no. But Rotherham team experienced at getting up from this level will be more of a threat than the freefalling mess that Derby County would've been in the context of getting promotion from League One.

We've been worrying about the mighty Lincoln, Doncaster, Oxford, Wimbledon etc for much of the season... Next season half the division will contain teams who have been non-league at some point since we were relegated from the Premier League, with another (Luton) a division above us.

We are and established mid-table League One club. Hopefully top half after tomorrow. Yes, we should look up to Rotherham, Luton, Barnsley, Peterborough and all the 50 odd clubs above us. They are better than us, many of them by a country mile. Hopefully now we have a chance to change all that and the mostly disgraceful, dismal efforts of the Evans’ reign should be used as a spur to push us forward. Never again should be the motto. The signs are that our new owners are serious. If they get it right and Cook knows what he is doing, we won’t need to worry about other clubs. They’ll be left worrying about us. It’s a garbage league and won’t take much to get out from. I’m foolishly optimistic for the first time since the Joe Royle days.

I think the worry just also comes from knowing we are not performing at the level we need to...so it always feel that we will slip further behind the rivals in terms of league position
All this talk of teams play next season on 17:24 - May 8 with 1288 views | wkj | Because it is footy, and being a town supporter over the years - we've always had to have our eyes on how other teams are doing around us. The sad truth is, this year - league one was stupidly easy to get promoted from, it wasn't a tough league at all. No one really looked consistent all year. Next year will not be the case. The covid cancellation hangover will be over - the fittest teams will not necessarily be the best teams (as was the case this year). I predict that next year will see an improvement in the overall quality of play in L1 with a big point split around mid-table - so I can see why we're keeping our peepers on the teams joining the league next year.

I’m trying to break the habit of years of worrying about how inferior we are to just about everyone else and the well found assumption we will worse next year. I was spoilt by witnessing the Robson years, but after the last 20 years of decline, it’s nice to feel some optimism. I and everyone else following this club have earned it!

I'm not so sure. All teams have taken a kicking revenue wise, no one will have money to buy players - probably except us, but even then I suspect we will be shopping in the free transfer end of the market. We will have good revenue next season and I suspect the Sheeran shirt deal will add a few million, while the big contracts are ending and players who cost but haven't featured (like Huws, sadly) will be no more. We are well placed, whether we take advantage or not will be interesting.
All this talk of teams play next season on 23:04 - May 8 with 886 views | Kropotkin123 | Not really my point of "worrying" about who comes down. Some years you can get multiple clubs making a challenge and in my opinion Rotherham are best placed to do that. This year Peterborough can finish with a maximum of 87 points in second place. In 2018/19 they would have finished 5th if they got 87 points. Hull could win the league with 92 points this year. They'd still need another 5 points to finish second in 2017/18. Point is, yes, if we walk the league, no issues. But we could do really well, get 95 points, and miss out. A team like Rotherham is more likely to get themselves together than a basket case like Derby. I don't take anything for granted and simply wanted Derby so our chances next year were as high as possible. [Post edited 8 May 2021 23:07]

I don't know, I've been watching us lose to Rotherham for 15 years or so.

Technically they aren't much better than us, but they have raw bravery and determination. They seem to win all the one-on-ones and know how to get stuck in. Next season I fully expect us to have a team that can not only match but beat Rotherham. When we get back into the Championship, we will be able to give a game to the likes of Luton and Coventry. I fully believe that.
