One thing which struck me from the interviews 09:09 - May 16 with 2245 viewsGuthrum

with Chambers and Skuse, plus other stuff I've come across.

Someone who appears to have been a key element in the happiness of the players, but who departed the club four years ago - Simon Milton.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Agreed. I’ve only met Milton once and he seemed a pleasant unassuming sort of bloke. He was clearly a very important part of the glue that held the club together (horrible metaphor but it’ll have to do). I wouldn’t mind betting he had far more idea about running the club than the likes of Turnstile Clegg and Flunkey Milne. Decent player too in his time. He had a really heavy shot on him.

I think the comment by LC that people wound up doing two or three jobs struck home with me too. The infrastructure of the club really has been pared down/neglected over far too long a period. I hope it’s something that can be rebuilt as soon as feasible.

Cost cutting by Evans no doubt. I’m not sure the real reason has ever come out.

He really did run all aspects of the club into the ground didn’t he? We were never ever set up for success and to let a club stalwart like that who I haven’t heard a bad word said against him.

A close family member knew Milts very well. Always spoke very highly of him.

It’s a bit more complicated than that with Milton. In the player-liaison role he clearly did a good job got incoming players and it seems to be one where where he hasn’t been replaced.

He then became the face of academy sponsorship and happily covered up for Evans failings there. It’s very telling that the largest academy sponsor pulled all his funding having been very close to Milton.

Some might also question the latter’s egotism in regard to the ex-players association.

Player-liaison is now part of the PR manager's remit. Milts did it alongside his academy manager's role, he wore plenty of hats when he was here. It was his decision to move on to he charity he now runs, although frustrations with the direction the club was going in may have come into it, but I can't speak for SM on that. I think he stepped back a bit in the Ex-Players' Association roles when he moved to Futurestars, although I think he remains on the committee.

I think it's fairly telling that Cook has immediately been on the recruitment drive for coaches

I suspect the same is needed for other areas of the club

Evans downsized everything off the field besides the wage budget for the 1st team imho, probably to League One level, which is ultimately where we ended up, rather unsurprisingly

I met him when he ran the 6 a side tournament that TWTD had a couple of teams in on the pitch at PR. Both teams were wearing old kit donated by the club seeing as we weren't a proper team, just a bunch of weirdos on a message board who wanted to get a team together, he sorted out a set of kit for both TWTD teams. He was around all day and as a really nice bloke, was on the mic to do the presentations at the end.

Where is Milton nowadays, moved onto better things or moved sideways?

Are you saying that the sponsor pulled funding when Milton left, or Milton left and then the sponsor pulled their funding?
