Watched The Men Who Stare At Goats the other day 13:38 - Jul 27 with 682 views | The_Flashing_Smile | Quirky, funny and different, which I like. I feel like it didn't really build to much, and the end scene was a bit silly, but definitely worth one watch. Just not something so great you want to watch over and over, like the best films make you feel. The subject matter is certainly fascinating, and I guess they stuck to what is actually known rather than sending it off in the direction of Hollywood, so they should be applauded for that. The acting from Clooney, Spacey and McGregor was superb though, which really saved it. Clooney's great in funny roles - love the similar sort of role he plays in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? which is a fantastic film I have watched several times. Anyone read the book? I'm guessing it suffers in the same way - lot's of questions, not enough answers.

Watched The Men Who Stare At Goats the other day on 14:27 - Jul 27 with 624 views | ArnoldMoorhen | If you, or others, like the kind of quirky subject matter that Ronson specialises in, then I can recommend "Wind of Change", a podcast in 8 eps of approx 50 mins all about a rumour that the song "Wind of Change" by The Scorpions (German Hair Metal band (or should that be "Herr Metal"?)) was actually written by the CIA as part of psy ops designed to hasten the fall of communism. I'm 3 episodes in. My wife has listened to it all and loved it. Agreed. I like the film but the book works a lot better.

It's a really sad book, in many ways. Lots of broken people. "Them: Adventures with Extremists" is my pick of his work. Some quite jaw-dropping moments. Jon Ronson as the best friend Abu Hamza never had.

Cheers for that. I’ll give it a listen. Re: podcast recommendations, the LouisTheroux interview of Jon Ronson is very good, funny but also there’s an interesting tension between them occupying the same niche. It’s a BBC podcast.

On a MUCH less intelligent note, I watched The Tomorrow War on prime last night. Entertaining enough if you can ignore that it is a bit silly and has some clonking great plot holes.
