He had a run of terrible form with them around then didn't he? I would not have been overly surprised if they had sacked him. I am delighted for Mogga. Really top bloke.

Blackburn move ahead of Plucky Little Bournemouth into second on 22:19 - Jan 24 with 1218 views | SitfcB | 9 wins (including 6 in a row), 2 draws and 1 defeat in the last 12 games since losing 7-0 to Fulham. Hope they can do it. Would’ve been no where near expected to finish in the top 2 pre-season.

Pretty sure they were sitting around 6th, which given they are Blackburn, was still far higher than they should be.

4th I think they were that's with Fulham, Bournemouth and WBA competing for 2 spots

Maybe not terrible now I look it up but they were on 17 points from their first 14 matches and had been dumped out of the league cup by Morecambe 1-2 at home. September/October lost 3 and drew one. Then won 2 on the trot (Reading and Derby) before being thrashed 0-7 at home by Fulham. Probably those two matches in the middle went a long way to keeping him safe but I think the fans were beginning to turn. Shows that sometimes patience with the right manager is rewarded.

They were in the play offs I think. There was zero danger / speculation of his job being at risk. Some fans were ambivalent to him leaving, but that's as close to unrest as it came. Edit; 4th in the table when linked. https://the72.co.uk/257576/blackburn-rovers-boss-tony-mowbray-is-ipswich-towns-t [Post edited 24 Jan 2022 22:40]

It is relevant to why the fans had been ambivalent and why I felt there was a possibility at that point that he might have been leaving them. The recovery in form is why it was never realistic that we could have got him in. Had we sacked Cook a little earlier and Balckburn lost the two games that they won, it might have been more plausible. I was never arguing that he was likely to be sacked when we appointed McKenna.

"He had a run of terrible form with them around then didn't he? I would not have been overly surprised if they had sacked him." That was your response to a post specifically talking about the time we were linked to him. (Mid Dec after Cooks sacking). I admire your efforts, but it's easier to admit that you were wrong. You posted a table from 7 weeks earlier. [Post edited 24 Jan 2022 22:50]

OK. "around then" was a little out. I could recall he had that spell. I think the speculation over Cook's future was happening at that time but maybe wrong there too. I do agree that it was never a realistic target getting Mogga regardless. You said "I don't recall that" so I looked up when it was. It was a little before we sacked Cook rather than when he actually went. I don't think wins against Derby and Reading fully convinced the fans so the thumping home defeat against Fulham would have rung alarm bells again. That was 3rd November after which they were 10th on 24 from 16. OK, it was another month before Cook was actually sacked, fair enough. [Post edited 24 Jan 2022 22:59]
