Beer + Burger Store does excellent burgers if that's your poison and is also in Coal Drops Yard.
Let's not forget that an 80 quid Dollers sausage and mash is also available in the area.

The King Charles pub on North Street, Kings X. Was my old local before I moved from the area. It’s a community owned pub and has a working cannon in the basement.

I would echo the views about Granary square / Coal Drops yard, though a bit more expensive. Kerb used to manage rotating food trucks on Wed - Fri in the summer.
For some lesser known spots:
Bloomsbury Farmers Market operates Thursdays, between Russell Square and Euston, with loads of options. Fortitude is an excellent bakery by Russell Square. I would suggest Pains de Papy (french bakery) but I've heard it has changed hands and not been since.
For eating in, Roti King by Euston for great value Malaysian food. Pizza Sophia is an excellent independent pizza spot and must be very close to you. Noble Rot typically offers a fixed price lunch option for somewhere more fancy, and Master Wei X'ian is excellent (but not your typical) Chinese.
Somers Town Coffee House & Norfolk Arms are reasonable pubs, both nearby too. It's an underrated area with many nice gardens to relax in during the summer on a lunch break. | | | |

Oh, just thought Casa Tua off of Judd St, I think Cromer Road is absolutely brilliant for a long, boozy lunch. On a hot day sat outside, you could be a million miles from Kings X. | | | |
