I thought that first time I saw this - don't think there is actually too much in it apart from the fact that the Villa player goes in at a weird angle which causes some sort of follow through

I don't know, it doesn't look great to me.
Studs are a bit high and he's going in twisting his body - it's a bad technique to tackle like that in the first place.
Caught him right on the ankle bone, I don't think it's great to be honest, especially in pre season. |  | | |

Never subscribed to the whole 'especially in pre-season' thing.
This is a bad tackle. Whether it's in pre-season or a cup final.
But I think when you're a player in any game you play with the same attitude. Pre-season you've got players wanting to impress the manager and if you're a defensive midfielder that likes a tackle then it's part of your game.
If you're McGinn and you're not one for tackling you're still doing the same work, showing the same desire and trying to impress the manager. Not sure you can just leave a tackle and impress the manager as much.
I get that you don't want to hurt anyone and players will take it slightly easier themselves where they can, but I don't see pre-season as any reason to hold back from impressing the manager, being in the team come the first game, trying to win yourself a new contract, not be replaced by a signing or - if a young kid - hoping to do enough to get onto the bench.
I personally see a bad tackle as a bad tackle but don't feel players should go any easier in these matches even if many clearly do. |  | | |

It's clear intent. The youngster put a hard challenge in just before. Clean but tough tackle. Player didn't like that.. he then did this one in retaliation. | |
