After Portsmouth next week... 15:11 - Sep 25 with 1518 views | Trequartista | ...we will have played all of the current top 6 in our first 11 games. We may not have beaten any of them. I think that is not as big a concern at this stage as is being made out. Look at it more in that all the teams we haven't played yet (after Portsmouth, 12) are not very good.

After Portsmouth next week... on 15:16 - Sep 25 with 1447 views | LankHenners | Going to be similar to last season where the top 6 (and possibly extending down to 8th-ish) keep racking up wins and not dropping many points. Just need to keep pace and try to eke out ahead when we can. Agree the 'haven't beaten a top team yet' panic is ill-judged at this stage but a win next week would do the world of good to nip that narrative in the bud and prevent any potential mental block from forming.

The 28k need to shout Town to that top 6 win.. also on 15:17 - Sep 25 with 1425 views | unstableblue | … we’ve been the better side against all teams to date; with Plymouth just bettering us But we really need as fans to generate and atmosphere on Saturday, make it intimidating, not sit on our hands when Pompey have their spells Hope Burns doesn’t play tonight and comes back really fired up to make Ipswich promotion his primary focus

After Portsmouth next week... on 15:20 - Sep 25 with 1387 views | Dubtractor | This is an important point. 10 games in, and we've played 4 of the other 5 top 6 teams, and we're well placed. It is bloody frustrating to have thrown wins away in the last 2 games, but its really not the end of the world, and we were never going to just coast the league all season.

Agree, replace Cambridge with Derby and I’d say the top 8 will stay pretty consistent for the rest of the season And we need to keep pace with the top two and be in it most of the time Cambridge is going to be full on, on Tuesday

After Portsmouth next week... on 15:26 - Sep 25 with 1271 views | ibbleobble | Sounds like an excuse to me. We were beaten by the better team this afternoon as we were poor second half, no qualms about that. Let’s not start making excuses for McKenna though - he can take the plaudits as well as the criticism. 3 pts from 12 against the sides around us has to improve. This idea that we can just draw with the top 6 and beat everyone else is a very fragile logic. Shades of Cook and Lambert in today’s second half. First half we passed with purpose and got in great positions to tenaciously win the second ball. Second half we were off it and got punished.

We could draw next week and be in 2nd place after not beating all of the top 6, so the idea we can just draw with the top 6 and score more points than our rivals over the rest of the division is quite plausible. You're describing the second half only from the moment they scored. The second half up to that point (i.e. the third quarter of the game) Plymouth weren't really in the game. After Portsmouth next week... on 15:45 - Sep 25 with 1102 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Does seem like we will have had a tricky start on paper and makes the points return even more impressive. "are not very good" I would say "are not as good". They are the matches we have been consistently winning and the bulk of the season. If we can keep winning those matches, we will get promoted. At some point we will slip up, I am sure. It will then be about bouncing back and not slipping up again for a long time. COYB!

I said it was a fragile theory, and it is. The minute you drop points to those outside the top 6 it comes unstuck. Not sure where it derived but it was certainly never a theory afforded predecessors so let’s not create it now as it has never been a thing and never should be. Beating sides around you is an obvious way to get promoted! It’s a weak excuse. Regarding the game, Plymouth had good spells in the first half and arguably created the better chances. To say they “weren’t” in the game isn’t right given Walton was the busier keeper in the first half.

If we win 2/3 of our matches, that gets us 92 pts. With the draws we are getting against the top teams on top, that will do nicely. Ultimately, we will not win every match against the lower sides in the table. However, it is important that we win most of them.

It’s a great start, no question. The slight loss of confidence is probably a legacy hangover from Lambert and Cook to be honest. KM is still a rookie, let’s not forget that. He’ll make mistakes but he’s been fantastic so far. I’ll stick to my point that we should have signed a better striker. JJ is still quite raw and after that, we’re scratching around for someone to lead the line. I do wonder how much Bonne’s, “I have unfinished business” comment worked against him. He’d have been a decent option off the bench today.

Totally agree. And likely we will also pick up points against the top 6 too. So generally I'm happy with that.
