Was announced as a minutes silence on the PA in the ground.

Flicked over to the Reading game and the last post was playing…and then a few shouts at the end of that of ‘come on you R’s’ as everyone else stayed silent… that time of year when a memo has to go out that the minute silence starts once the Last Post finishes!

It was a genuine mistake, and he did make a half-hearted (blame it on lack of clarity) sort-of excuse. However, it was a very poor mistake to make. The players hadn't broken ranks, there were a few fans clapping but it really shouldn't have confused him that easily.
