So TWTD hive mind.. what is going to happen to Twitter? And what alternative? 19:20 - Nov 19 with 2030 views | unstableblue | I like Twitter, I use is a lot, and it’s one of my main sources of ITFC content bar TWTD I’m out of touch of what is happening to it? And the influence of the charlatan Musk. Is it indeed going to fold? Or become unusable due to new rules, function. Are KOA, ITFC and Blue Monday, and the interesting town fans going to move to Telegram, Mastadon? Talk to me? Many thanks

So TWTD hive mind.. what is going to happen to Twitter? And what alternative? on 20:01 - Nov 19 with 1978 views | bluelagos | My thoughts. Short term, if Musk loses as many staff as is rumoured, would imagine Twitter will have issues where problems/bugs whatever dont get fixed in a timely manner. Read an article today suggesting short outages were a real possibility Long term, Musk's desire to push free speach and fewer staff will probably lead to more abuse and a less pleasant user experience. That will lead to some leaving, others engaging less. Musk is many things, but I don't see him watching twitter implode and him p1ssing 44Bn dollars away. Would imagine he'll start to rehire and if sensible, appoint someone to run it for him. Think 44bn is around a fifth of his wealth and took some loans, so cant see him letting it collapse. Mastadon is being touted as the alternative. I tried so set up an account and failed, but I am rubbish with tech. It gets mixed reviews but I guess people wont know until it has more users/traffic/posts. Fiik where Itfc accounts are going, time will tell but I suspect most will stay put and a few maybe dual post.

So TWTD hive mind.. what is going to happen to Twitter? And what alternative? on 20:10 - Nov 19 with 1953 views | PioneerBlue | I finally killed off my account having been an early adopter and having dabbled with account closures. No intention to reuse in future. Never bothered with fb. Forums, Insta and Telegram plus will look to see what pops up next.

A few I follow have joined Mastoden & are running dual accounts as an interim measure, but I don't like the complexity of the set-up (the double @ &@ are offputting for starters) or the look of it at all. May investigate one of the others (not fb, which I loathe).

Mastodon looks terrible and very little on there Instagram is touted as obvious next best place to Twitter and ITFC on there for example But the UI and function doesn’t quite work for me

Isn't Instagram mostly photos/videos? That wouldn't suit me. Thought I might take a look at TikTok but know nowt about it.

Mastodon takes a little effort but isn’t that difficult, really. The UI is similar to Twitter; it has tweets (or toots), retweets (boosts) and likes. It’s not Twitter, purposefully so. I think if people just expect to leave Twitter and find exactly the same sort of experience/set up/ease of use they’ll obviously be disappointed. Most of my Twitter is around web design. In that sort of area, Mastodon has really taken off. An ITFC/TWTD instance would be a great idea...

I just really dislike the format of Mastoden too, the way it's fragmented & compartmentalised. I don't want to have to join multiple servers/different groupings for football, environmental issues, literature, photography, dogs, politics etc. On Twitter you have a single port which opens up all those & a hundred other different worlds for you simultaneously - massive difference, so much better.

I've been trying Mastadon for a couple of weeks and it's not the answer. I can't see many wanting to use it long term. There will be plenty of startups getting pots of investment in the hope they are the next Twitter. We'll see a viable alternate in 6 months or so. Perhaps something like Cohosts or Bluesky that are that further on might be the one, but my money is on a new platform

You can follow across instances easily enough (and move, retaining your followers and follow list), so in my experience the timeline is pretty similar to Twitter, where there’ll be a little ITFC, a bit of music and lots of web dev stuff (depending on how much adoption there’s been in each area). But yeah, choosing an original instance is an exercise in choosing a particular interest. It’s unlikely brands are going to do that; they’ll want that single place to pump out messages. Not something I’ll personally miss, but maybe hard to see an official ITFC account there, for example. Like I say, it’s not Twitter. As most people want to leave because it’s been taken over by a billionaire, or because it gave Trump a platform, having federated, open source individual Twitters is perhaps a good thing.

I'd say that kept going until the late 90s. All the raves/parties and substances I bought to take there was all done without mobiles or socials. Probably the last generation to have that though. Glad all the crazy stuff I did and the states I got into there was nobody with a phone recording it.
