GSTK/Q is such a dirge. A subservient one too - “long to rein over us”; please be our betters, we’re not worthy and just serfs. I hate it with a passion. England needs its own for sporting events (not Sweet Caroline or Hey Jude!). And then the UK/GB needs a new one. Unless UK and GB have separate ones. All very confusing, but I’m sure Asa could knock up some ditties. |  |

Interesting. It seems that vast majority of these originated in a time when the monarch was the absolute ruler, and most will no doubt have been the replaced. What strikes me as odd is that we have such an anthem when the monarch is merely a figurehead. But that's the anachronistic UK for you. [Post edited 15 Dec 2022 9:30]
