Can people please stop blaming the fog 13:00 - Jan 22 with 1294 viewsgtsb1966

It wasn't foggy against Bolton, Barnsley, Sheffield Weds, Plymouth twice, Lincoln twice, Charlton , Cheltenham, Fleetwood, Wycombe and Portsmouth. All games we failed to win. We are not consistent enough. How we fix that though is anyone's guess.

It wasn’t foggy in those games.

By the way I’m not blaming the fog, but I’m not exactly sure what your point is.

It is quite funny hearing it expressed as if it only affected us. I'm sure JD didn't see that cross coming properly before he bunted it directly up in the air just before the winner, and I'm sure Walton didn't see the shot properly...but perhaps if we'd been able to get the odd decent effort on target we might have benefited from it too.

Haven’t seen anyone blame the fog, only seen people telling people to stop blaming the fog.

Mckenna said Chaplin complained when he missed a header 5 yards out said he lost sight of the ball and Mckenna said the game should of been called off yet had the chance but declined the offer.

So are you saying people can't complain about a game in which fog WAS a factor and in which a referee has potentially misadvised us, thus contributing to said defeat?

Don’t you think Chaplin’s views are more interesting than the ill-informed opinions of random people online. What with him being there and being a player. His thoughts on it are interesting.

And both managers were happy to call it off.

You can't simply line up every game we've not won as an exemplar of inconsistency! Even the Invincibles (Preston or Arsenal) drew sometimes.

It's more an issue that we are being consistent in failing to score sufficient goals from the chances created and letting in enough to make that a problem.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I think that means that we're not as good as hoped.

Tbh if I'd missed a header 4 yards out. I'd be blaming the fog.

Innit!

I’m blaming the fog for not being able to see the game properly. Must have been a right pain for those who’d splashed out to travel.

I wanna know how clarke looked when he came on. You couldn't see feck all of that far side in the last 15 minutes.

Up to the Port Vale game we were scoring an average of 1.94 goals per game (with 5 three-goal hauls) and conceding 0.88 gpg. From Cheltenham on, we have been scoring at 1.4 gpg (with just 1 three-goal haul) and conceding 1.0 gpg*.

Our rate of conceding has crept up only a little, but the scoring rate is down 27%. Crucially, it is much closer to 1:1, which is a draw, than the previous 2:1, a victory.

It's not that Town are suddenly much weaker at the back, it's simply we are significantly less sharp in front of goal.

* I missed out Charlton because a) it is an outlier, b) it was a draw anyway and c) it warps the numbers unnecessarly.
