I was at PR for his final appearance. A 3-0 defeat against Southampton. I can't remember if he was at fault for any of the goals but he was getting a load of abuse from some behind the goal at Churchmans end which upset him to the extent that the Star ran a piece on it the next night.
A real shame that a great servants Town career ended that way.
I was very fortunate as a young lad to have Laurie living with us as his "digs". He very quickly became my parents adopted sixth child.. The night of the Andy Gray incident he was dropped off at ours as he was unfit to drive home. I am sure he appreciated a nine year old boy playing tunes on a Bontempi piano for him while he sipped whiskey through a straw because of the stitches on his mouth...lol He has become a long standing family friend ever since (even if he did represent Nazi Germany in an international once).
