Mckenna reminds me of young Eddie Howe.... 08:37 - Feb 15 with 1153 viewsPippin1970

Eddie Howe struggled at Burnley but excellent with Bournemouth. As more experienced now one of the top managers around. Ipswich either stick or twist with him. Depends like what others have said , how patient the owners are.

The alternative being going back to the old school type of manager ?, going back to 442 ?, how thoroughly depressing

Howe went to Burnley having already done a very good job at Bournemouth, where he then returned to. Not sure the comparison really works.

They are both human and football managers. Not sure there is much more of a comparison.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

The problem we have is that we're being used as McKenna's test tube experiment. It may well not end how we want, but you can guarantee McKenna will get another job and get it right further down the line. Is he the right man at the wrong time for this club?

There was no real pressure at Bournemouth and took them to new heights. Burnley there was more expectation. Then obviously went back to them. Expectations from.Ipswich to Mckenna would of been from the start.

His ideas will probably work well when using them on better players

Still not seeing the comparison. McKenna hasn't come here with a few years of management experience under his belt, which is what Howe had when he went to Burnley.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. Did we need a hard-nosed type to get us out of League One and then recruit a McKenna for stabilising/kicking on in the Champ? How many clubs keep hold of one manager for the entire 'journey' or 'process' these days?

The club will have set targets for the season. A must do and a would love to do. The must do will have been a top six finish. The would like is automatic promotion. Next season if the bed sheet brigade have not chucked McKenna out the target will be top two. If by Christmas we're not in that we'll probably re-set. But this is a classic case of money does not buy promotion. A team with a spine and goals do!
